One thing about being a child of a politician is that they are never completely off duty about how the family's integrity is seen.

That truth followed Frances Diane Domagoso—daughter of Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko" Moreno Domagoso—to Chris Nick’s show at Manila Fashion Week 2025 on October 17, 2025, where the conversation landed on modest living and accountability.

On the current trend of lifestyle-checking political families, Frances tells PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal): “I think it's good.

“I do agree that politicians and their families alike should live a very, I guess, humble lifestyle.

“So, I think it's nice that people are a bit more aware of this now.”

The 25-year-old influencer adds: “It's normal that many are getting involved.

“I don't necessarily think that every child of a politician is guilty of something necessarily, but yeah...

“Well, I would like to say that I'm proud of where I come from. I'm proud to be a Domagoso, and I think that we earn our way of living humbly and comfortably.

Why lifestyle checks are back in focus

The term “lifestyle check” refers to a review of a public official’s or employee’s way of living—their properties, purchases, and social-media presence—to see if it aligns with their declared income.

Recently, Filipinos have been calling out what they perceive as excessive displays of wealth among those in the political circle.

The movement picked up new urgency in the wake of the Philippine Flood Control Corruption Scandal—a trillion-peso controversy that sparked outrage after reports of ghost projects and luxury assets linked to public funds surfaced online.

As the scandal unraveled, citizens turned to cross-referencing officials’ reported incomes with family posts of sports cars, designer wardrobes, and overseas vacations.

More importantly, the practice is fueled by what is written into law.

Under Republic Act 6713, the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, Section 4(h) states that officials and their families “shall lead modest lives appropriate to their positions and income” and “shall not indulge in extravagant or ostentatious display of wealth.”

Passed in 1989, the law has long served as a moral compass for those in government. But in today’s hyperconnected era, the definition of “modest” now lives under public interpretation.

Frances keeps her hands off politics and showbiz

Now that Frances's younger brother, Joaquin Domagoso, is a councilor, is there a possibility for her to follow a political path?

The Domagoso family unica hija answers: “No, no. For now, it's never been my plan.

“I do love being with my dad and, I do like assisting him in Manila only because I get to see him a lot now.

“And my brother just won councilor, so I'm super proud. And yeah, so all of us tend to hang out in Manila a lot now with my mom.

“But we do a lot of logistics, so it's good. Para siyang family, like, we're all working together.

“But no... So far, no plans with those things. We don't put that in mind.”

When asked about her brother Joaquin, she clarifies that he may have no plans to return to acting either.

“Joaquin's not gonna come back [to showbiz], actually. He's more, more focused on politics,” she reveals.

“You can't do both, you know. My dad always says, ‘You can't put one foot in and one foot out. You're all in.’

“When you're in politics, all focus is there. So, yeah, it's good for my brother.”

As for herself, Frances prefers to stay behind the scenes from politics and showbiz altogether.

“I'm shy. No, not at all,” she reiterates.

“I like clothes. Like, I like to dress up. I am a girl. Like, I like to be cute and pretty, but I'm quite shy.

“I don't like to be in front of the camera, but yeah, no, no showbiz. Just in the back.”
