As much as other nationalities go gaga over the World Cup, the Oscars, and horses, Filipinos go crazy over the three Bs: boxing, basketball, and beauty queens.
The Philippines is currently holding an exemplary track record with 15 victories at the "Big Four" international pageants: Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International, and Miss Earth.
The pageant season has already started in the country with Binibining Pilipinas pageant hailing Cebuana lass Gazini Ganados as the new Miss Universe Philippines last June 19.
On July 10, Wednesday, Filipino-Italian model Celeste Cortesi passed on the Miss Earth Philippines title to another aspiring beauty queen.
In September, Katarina Rodriguez will relinquish her Miss World Philippines crown to another deserving candidate.
Through the years, the country has produced amazing beauty queens, many of whom have started their own families.
Will the daughters of former Filipina beauty queens follow in the footsteps of their moms?
Let's find out.
ATASHA MUHLACH
Atasha Muhlach, 17, is the daughter of Binibining Pilipinas-Universe 1994 Charlene Gonzalez and husband Aga Muhlach, and the granddaughter of Binibining Pilipinas 1964 runner-up Elvira Gonzales.
Charlene and Elvira made history in local pageantry as the first mother and daughter to join the Binibining Pilipinas contest.
Atasha and her twin brother, Andres Muhlach, are finishing their high school studies at the Brent International School Manila in Biñan, Laguna.
Atasha has the height and is part of her school's basketball team.
Should she decide to follow in the footsteps of her mom and grandmother in the pageant world, she will make history as a third-generation aspiring beauty queen.
But for now, Atasha and her twin brother Andres are focused on finishing their studies first before entering the entertainment industry.
For college, she plans to take up business management at a school in the United Kingdom.
MICHELLE DEE
Michelle Dee, 23, is the daughter of Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez with businessman Frederick Dee.
The buzz is that Michelle is planning to join the Miss World Philippines pageant this year.
Standing five foot six, Michelle is a model also currently trying her luck in the entertainment industry, and has signed up with the ALV Talent Circuit and GMA Artist Center.
Michelle is also an endorser of one of the country's biggest clothing brand. In college, Michelle studied Psychology at the De La Salle University in Manila.
LORIN GUTIERREZ
Lorin Gutierrez, 15, is another beauty queen in the making. She is the eldest daughter of Miss World 1993 second runner-up Ruffa Gutierrez with her ex-husband Yilmaz Bektas.
Lorin, however, is yet to show interest in joining beauty pageants. In a previous interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), Lorin said she is more interested in pursuing a career as an actress more than becoming a beauty queen.
She said, "Right now, I’m doing some acting in school and doing productions. Honestly, I’m really enjoying it. I’m learning so about acting and it’s really something I find passion in."
Her mom echoed, "She's thinking more about college. Happy ako na ganun."
Lorin graduated from high school at The British School Manila in Taguig City.
Early this month, she flew to the United States, where she will take up a business-related course in "one of the top-ranked economics institutes in the world."
She is currently spending a summer in California for her pre-college studies.
ASHLEY SUBIJANO MONTENEGRO
Ashley Victoria Subijano Montenegro, 19, is the daughter of Binibining Pilipinas World 1994 Cara Subijano-Wong and former husband TV host Hans Montenegro.
Ashley grew up with her mom in California; she now lives here and is currently a student at Enderun Colleges in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
Ashley has also been working as a part-time model for over a year under Ideal People Model Management. She has walked the runways of Philippine Fashion Week and Manila Fashion Festival.
Last year, Ashley was also named as one of Filipino fashion designer Randy Ortiz's "millenial muses."
SARINA SANTIAGO
Sarina Santiago, 21, has bloomed into an amazing lady like her mom, Binibining Pilipinas Universe 1989 Sarah Jane Paez-Santiago.
Sarina is currently finishing her college studies at the Boston University. She is now on her senior year in the university taking up Business Administration major in Marketing.
Sarina returned briefly to the Philippines to spend her summer vacation in the country. She was spotted last May as one of the sagalas at the Manila Hotel's Flores De Mayo. Later that month, she did a shoot with fashion photographer Jan Garcia.
Early this month, Sarina returned to the U.S. for a marketing internship in New York City.
With her latest appearances, Sarina has gained interest among veteran pageant watchers whether she is aiming for a Binibining Pilipinas crown or not.
But according to her mom, "I don't think she will join Binibini....she is not interested...for now."
GABRIELLE LAUREN
The old saying "like mother, like daughter" proves to be true for Binibining Pilipinas World 1996 Daisy Reyes and her daughter Gabrielle Lauren, 15.
Gabrielle is the only daughter of Daisy with former husband, Indian businessman Raza Igqbal. She is currently a high school student and yet to show interest in joining pageants.
LEILA ALCASID
Leila Alcasid, 21, definintely has the good genes of her father Ogie Alcasid and her mom, Miss Universe Australia 1994 Michelle Van Eimeren.
Though her mom is not a Bb. Pilipinas winner, some pageant fans have hoped that she would join the local franchise of Miss Universe.
But at present, Leila is following in the footsteps of her dad in the music industry. In February 2018, she launched her first single "Completely In Love."
In March, she was launched as one of the new faces of 2018 Star Magic Circle.
About joining a beauty contest, it seems Leila is not too keen. According to Ogie, his daughter's heart is in music.
He told ABS-CBN in an interview, "Well, sabi naman niya nirerespeto niya ang mga beauty queen. Siyempre nanay naman niya beauty queen din kaya lang 'yung puso niya I think is in music, and she also wants to do acting. So 'yun ang gusto niyang gawin."
