Singer and talent manager Carlo Orosa returned home last week from his U.S. trip and Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) caught up with him yesterday after the prescon of Cinco where Sam Concepcion, one of his wards, is joining the cast.
Carlo accompanied Christian Bautista on his trip which culminated with an Independence Day celebration on Madison Avenue in New York City. (CLICK HERE to see photos.)
"We performed for a very large crowd. There was an estimated 20,000 to 30,000 crowd of Filipinos who came. It was told to us that it was the biggest gathering of Filipinos in New York for an Independence Day celebration. Pati ako, I sang with Christian, Sarah Geronimo, si Kitchie Nadal was also there and all the other local performers. The reason for the turnout was the big promotion of TFC. Thanks to the people who watched," Carlo said.
"Masaya siya. Ang highlight of the event was the parade. There were more than 52 Filipino organizations who joined. They all flew in to New York. They wore their Filipinianas. They did Filipino dances. It was a big celebration showcasing of the best what the Filipinos can offer."
Carlo added, "Very warm ang pagtanggap nila. Sobra. Akala ko nga magagalit sila kasi nag-comedy ako with my song. I sang "Impossible Dream" in a comedic way. Kunwari, tumatalon-talon ang plaka. Sinusundan ko kung saan tumapat yung song."
ON CHRISTIAN. Carlo is proud of Christian's achievements, especially of his participation at the Inaugural of President Noynoy Aquino yesterday.
Carlo revealed, "Actually, it was a last minute request of the presidential committee. Parang there was so much time during the inauguration. They had to fill in the time.
"We know there was a lot of mixed reactions about his performance. 'Bakit walang minus one?' 'Bakit last-minute lang siya pinakanta?' He gave in to the request.
"Pero after that, he tweeted that he sang "You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban. After that, Josh tweeted Christian and thanked him for singing it."
Carlo added that Christian will be joining this Friday Bench underwear fashion show. There will be three other talents who are joining the fashion show: Enrique Gil, Sam Concepcion, and Karylle.
"They can't wait to see his abs," Carlo jested.
Carlo said that the decision for Christian to bare his body took a long time.
"Matagal na namin pinapagawa sa kanya 'yun. He just wasn't ready yet. Also because he wasn't physically fit and he couldn't showcase anything. He's more open now because of the change of his image. After the release of his album, Romance Revisited, parang doon nagka-buwelo.
Christian also continues to conquer Southeast Asia.
"Madalas din si Christian sa Indonesia ngayon. In fact, sa mga appearances niya sa Indonesia, nag-ta-top siya sa mga Twitter trend. Nag-na-number one siya. Marami siyang fans."
ON SAM. Sam Concepcion will have his third film released this coming July 14. Sam is part of the first episode of five-part movie Cinco. Sam will be joined by his fellow Gigger Boys AJ Perez and Robi Domingo.
Miko was the first movie for Sam. It was a short film which won at the New York Film Festival in 2005. Sam did Shake, Rattle and Roll IX more recently.
Carlo is happy that Sam is one of the featured stars the episode titled "Braso."
Sam will be turning 18 years old in October and Carlo believes that Sam can offer so much more.
"I think he's only one of the few who can really sing, act and dance. Parang after Gary, siya na yung next na puwede. That's how we are grooming him. All the things that he are doing now—being in ASAP, the movie—are all part of his training, part of the process of being a good star someday," he said about the teener Sam.
ON KARYLLE. Karylle is busy with the TV show called Run TV on Studio 23.
"Mga hardcore runners ang kasama niya. She loves to run. Saka lahat ng mga endorsements all related to health. She's doing one for Milo. There's one for Blue Day Water Spa. She's part of Gold's Gym. Pero running yung gusto niya talaga," Carlo ended.
