PEP EXCLUSIVE Jim Paredes on Senator Tito Sotto’s plagiarism issue: "Pinagtatawanan siya kasi pinaninindigan niya yung mali."

There’s no question in my mind that I think the woman has really her own choice, you know, what she wants to do with her fertility."

“I’m pro-RH," mabilis na sagot niya.

"There’s no question in my mind that I think the woman has really her own choice, you know, what she wants to do with her fertility.

“Whether she wants to have children or not.”

“I’m not one of them, simply because I wasn’t teaching this sem. But I would’ve signed,” sabi niya.

“See, the problem with the [people against] RH Bill is ano, e… mahina sila sa reasoning, e.

“Malakas sila sa emotion tsaka malakas sila sa dogma, you know.

“And where does dogma come from? It comes from people who just say ’this is it,’ and they don’t wanna argue with it, di ba?

"So, kalokohan yun, e.”

Sagot ni Jim, “You know what, after forty-three years in the business, I’ve learned that I cannot please everybody.

“And second, I’m not running for Miss Amity or anything like that.

"So I think, the older you get, you just wanna express your views and if they don’t like it, so what?”

“Because of fear? All their arguments are about fear: fear of sex, fear of the church.

"Maling mga reasoning. It’s ignorance,” diretso niyang sabi.

SENATOR TITO SOTTO.

Sagot niya, “Oo, I knew him from way back. And you know, that’s really the way he is.

“Akin, kay Tito, it starts off with ano, e… the problem with the RH Bill is, if you start off with anti, you can’t listen to reason anymore.

“Sinabi nang hindi pro-abortion, di ba, nakalagay dun, ‘will not tolerate abortion.’

“Where is that coming from, di ba?

“And they fear, that if you give people the power to control their fertility, na magwawala lahat, di ba?"

Dagdag ni Jim, “Sweden has been doing that since the ’60s and you don’t see the Swedish to be really wild people.

“For me, sa kanila, ang… they’re coming from a place where people are naturally bad.

"So therefore, don’t give them more [freedom] kasi they’re gonna be more bad.

“I’m coming from a place where I think, you can trust people… to look out for their best interest and to be mature about it.”

“Parang, for me, it was like a dent in a car that became a train wreck, di ba?

“Kung sinabi niya na lang, ‘Sorry, I bumped you.’ No!

It became a big, big issue, you know.

“Which to me, pride is really the problem there. It’s not plagiarism.

“It’s very clear. Even the New York Times called him a plagiarist.

“I mean, he’s a… he’s an acquaintance. But, you know, I think mali siya dun.

“And he shouldn’t take issue when people say mali siya dun.

I’m not making fun of him.

"Pero when it comes to the points… the points were made very well, ‘She’s just a blogger.’ Di ba?

“Di ba yun ang sabi niya? ‘She’s just a blogger,’ so dapat walang boses."

Patuloy ni Jim, “Tapos, when they apologized, it was such an apology na napaka… ‘O, ’yan, nag-apologize na ‘ko, ha!’

"Parang ganun ang dating, di ba?

“Wala yung… I mean, take a look at Fareed…what’s his name… Fareed [Zakaria]. This writer from CNN.

"He was caught plagiarizing.

“What did he say? ‘I apologize unreservedly.’

"And then he went… he was suspended for a month. E, di, tapos.

"And then people forget, you know.

"Even politically-speaking, it was a wrong, wrong thing to do.

"Biro mo, kalaban mo lahat ng bloggers. Cyberspace, kalaban mo. Mahirap ’yan.”

Sagot ni Jim, “You know, I don’t wanna make a general rule that actors can’t get into politics.

“Maybe we have not had a good experience of it but if you… I have met actors from different countries who got into politics who were very, very successful at it.

“Even Robert Redford, when he talks about his political stand on the environment, he’s so well thought out, you know.

“So, it really depends on the person that you’re talking about. I don’t think we can make a general rule.

“In many ways, you can say that an actor, really, would know the public pulse more, you know.

“But in our case, maybe we just elected the wrong actors, maybe.”
