Maria Isabel Lopez on Jaclyn Jose's win at Cannes: "We are so blessed!"

Maria Isabel Lopez pleads to Filipino moviegoers to show support to indie films since these are the movies that give pride to the Philippines, following the recent victory of Jaclyn Jose at the 69th Cannes Film Festival wherein she got the Best Actress trophy for the film Ma' Rosa.

After the red carpet, the next day I left na. Hindi na ako nag-awards night.

“I went there for the red carpet, tapos the next day, lumipad na kami ng boyfriend ko sa Paris.”

“When I was in Paris, I met this French counterpart noong ginawa namin yung movie ni Brillante, yung mga Pranses na co-producers ko.

“Habang nagmi-meeting kami the night before, sabi nila, ‘You know what, according to rumors, Isabelle Huppert will win the Best Actress and her movie Elle is gonna win the Palme d’Or.'

“Anyway, we’re not expecting in Ma’ Rosa. We’re just doing our best, but we’re not really expecting.”

“My God, noong gabing yun, tumawag yung same guy na nag-quote na Pranses!

“[Sabi niya,] ‘Isabel! I’m so nervous, I think Jaclyn will win!’

“Sabi ko, ‘Why, you said Isabelle Huppert will win!’

“[Sagot niya,] ‘I think Jaclyn is going to steal the Best Actress trophy!’

“Nakuha na natin ang best director, after seven years, nakuha natin ang Best Actress!

“We are so blessed!”

My God, please Filipino audience, grow up also.

“These are the films na nagbibigay ng honor sa country natin.
