A year after their controversial rift, Kris Aquino revealed that she is back on good terms with Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista.
Kris said that they had a heart-to-heart talk when they met over lunch in Makati City last Tuesday, October 4.
“Ito siguro puwede ko naman i-share. Nung Tuesday — at talagang nagbigay ako ng specifics — I had a late lunch with Mayor Herbert.
“Napag-usapan namin lahat ng kapalpakan, pagkakamali, and all.
“And the one thing from that lunch that came out of it was that we both realized, if you want a relationship — I’m not talking about him, ha, kasi nasa friendzone na kami — kung gusto mo talaga magka-chance, keep it to yourself, lalo na if you are public.
“I think it is very healing for both of us.”
Around this time last year, Kris had a fight with Herbert because of her “unresolved personal issues” with him.
Kris even admitted that their “tumultuous relations” caused her to back out from the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival entry All You Need Is Pag-ibig.
She still ended up doing the said project sans Herbert, who was supposed to be her leading man.
When asked if they were able to finally thresh things out, Kris reiterated, “Lahat napag-usapan. But in a nice, mahinahon way.”
She added that it was a “very friendly” lunch meet-up with “konting emotions, konting sumbatan.”
A few entertainment reporters were able to interview Kris after the program proper of Ariel Power Gel detergent’s new campaign launch, held at Shooting Gallery Studios in Makati City, Tuesday, October 11.
While Kris made it clear that it was "not a date," she maintained that it was Herbert who asked her out.
She explained, “He knew what I’ve been going through professionally.
“I think there’s enough there of a history for him to know how much this has affected me.
“So, sabi niya, 'Kailangan mo ng makikinig?' Yun.
“It just so happened that day na I think nag-meeting [siya] in the area.
“Tapos merong four-hour window because President [Rodrigo Duterte] will speak in Dusit [Thani Hotel in Makati City].
“So, yun, nag-usap kami nang maganda.
“Sinabi nga niya, ‘Nag-iba ka.’
“Sabi ko, ‘Oo, na-humble ako. Yun ang nangyari. Humility suits me. Hahaha!”
Apparently, Herbert was aware of the professional crisis that Kris went through these past three weeks.
Kris added that the Quezon City mayor gave her a much-needed boost of confidence and bits of “wisdom."
“Kasi he’s been through defeat. Natalo siya dati, di ba? He said na don’t let that define you.
“One thing that really struck — one bad person should not color your judgment about everybody else. If the deal went south, there’s another deal.
“Tapos sinabi niya, ‘Ikaw naman, kahit saan pa rin ako pumunta tinatanong, ‘Uy, kailan ba babalik si Kris?’
“So, sabi niya, ‘Huwag ka matakot about that.’”
LASTING CONNECTION? Prior to their lunch meet-up, Kris revealed that she also reached out to Herbert when his brother and Quezon City Fourth District Councilor Hero Bautista tested positive for drug use.
“I reached out nung pinagdaanan nila yun. Kasi, di ba, if you have history, you reach out," said Kris when PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked what keeps her and Herbert connected despite their failed romance in the past.
She added, “Yun, nangangamusta.
“Kasi he knew na we moved out in Quezon City. We’re now in Makati.
“We’re still waiting for our Quezon City house to finish, na hopefully by May matapos na talaga.
“So, siguro okay, kasi tapos na yung lahat ng ano, sisihan, ‘Ikaw kasi...’ Yung ganun.
“Nag-mature kaming dalawa enough to realize na puwede tayong maging friends.”
