"Baron Gaisler asked many times on that traumatic day, if Ping Medina was the lead of the film BUBOG.
"I told him, that there is no clear lead in the story, it's an ensemble cast and the star is the story itself.
"Ang istorya ang bida.
"I prayed hard for this decision and it felt good to reach to this point of no return. By that I mean, I will go back to the intention and purpose of the film, not as interpreted by someone who wants dual roles and had injected his own script into my original script.
"I discussed my decision with Ping and we both agreed that this is the best option. In fact the only option that would bring back the happy atmosphere on the set when we shoot a film.
"I work with the same group, add a few, in each film, so I can experience working with others as well, but the core group is the same: my dear MJ, Gen, Alona, Lea, Jojo, Boy, Joe, Dian, Juvan, Tito Bobby and Danni. Whoever comes to join the core group, actors and other production crew and personnel, they always come to a happy set.
"The decision is final, focused and liberating.
"I will reshoot the scene as intended and with the original actors I have in mind.
"The film will be released internationally and locally without Ping and Baron.
"You see, Ping was a replacement and Baron was offered another role in the film, not the one in the scene with Ping. These two actors were given the first copies of the script and they have in fact studied their respective characters.
"The reason why I wasn't able to have them when we shot the scene was because of conflict in schedule. The first actor was busy shooting, finishing his last scenes for another film, while the other one attended a film festival abroad and went on with a long schedule trip with family and friends.
"Both are now free to give life to the roles originally offered to them.
"Ping knew he was a replacement, Baron too knew because he said he is ready with "any role".
"Ping needs to rest. Not just rest. Trauma has no time frame.
"Pain is not always on the surface. Ping trusted me in my first film, Maratabat and we have become true friends ever since. When I underwent that cancer surgery, a year ago, he spent his hard earned money to buy me boxes of organic drink to help in my recovery.
"He also kept on reminding me what to eat and what not to eat, by sending me links regularly on articles I can read. He also encouraged me to do meditation and learn breathing techniques.
"The love and concern of friends like Ping helped me recover. Traumatized, he is the first to remind me that I do not need this kind of stress.
"Stress is something that I should be avoiding. Cancer cells are triggered by a lot of factors and stress is one of them. I do not need to go head on with stress. It was a bad decision to cast Baron, but not a bad move to trust him that he will remain sober for the entire shoot.
"To trust is a choice, you can never regret trusting a person even if his name is Baron Gaisler.
"We are starting fresh.
"Thank you Ping. You gave me Efren Aguilar until the last second for that scene.
"With or without that betrayal on the set for that scene, I would like you to know that you owned the character.
"Years from now, maybe we will view that scene together with popcorn and drinks and look back on how this experience have made us stronger as individuals.
"To you Baron, you can now concentrate on promoting your film-documentary and your book. You cannot use this project anymore. You are forgiven.
"You need help and I hope you get it soon. The next "stunt" you might do may not receive understanding and forgiveness .
"The center stage, the spotlight for BUBOG (Crystals) belongs to the story, and not to anyone.
"Yun ang bida. Sa simula't simula, iyon ang bida."
