Coney Reyes said there is no truth to rumors linking her son, Pasig City Councilor Vico Sotto, to Eat Bulaga! Dabarkads Maine Mendoza.
The veteran actress said, “Wala naman yun. Wala. There’s nothing really to it.
“It’s just the fans trying to put them together.
“Wala naman akong alam. Malalaman ko naman siguro kung meron.”
This was in relation to previous reports saying that Vico is an avid suitor of Maine.
Both Vico and Maine, however, denied any talk romantically linking them to each other.
As far as she knows, Coney said that her 27-year-old son with Vic Sotto is still very much single at the moment.
She elaborated, “Marami naman siyang friends.
“Sometimes may mga barkada sila before na pumupunta sa sa house, lalo na yung mga kaklase niya, ganun.
“Pero wala naman siyang sinasabing this is the one or this is special. Hindi ganun.
“Yung mind niya ngayon, nasa trabaho, e. Kasi ang dami niyang gustong i-achieve.”
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) had the chance to interview Coney at the grand presscon of ABS-CBN's upcoming primetime series My Dear Heart, held Thursday night, January 19.
LOVE ADVICE. Asked about any love advice that she gives Vico, Coney maintained that she’s not the type of mom who meddles in her son’s love life.
“Hindi ako masyado nakikialam.
“Ako, ang palagi ko lang sinasabi sa kanya, ‘Just pray. Just trust God that He will give you in His time kung sino talaga yung sa ‘yo.’
“Tapos, ipinapanalangin ko kung ano yung babaeng ibibigay sa kanya ng Panginoon.
“Lahat sinasabi ko kay Lord yung qualifications. Parang mas marami pa ata akong qualifications kaysa sa kanya!”
Nonetheless, Coney said that she just hopes Vico's future girlfriend would be someone who’s “God-fearing” and “cute.”
When told that Vico seems to be doing well with his job as a first-time councilor of Pasig City, Coney proudly said that her son always had a heart for serving others.
“Basta ako, before he got into that world of politics, nag-usap na kami. Hindi mahabang usapan, e.
“Basta nirerespeto ko siya. Naniniwala ako sa kanya.
“I believe in his heart because I’ve seen how he was even as a little boy.
He had the heart for the poor. Yung sa tama palagi ang gusto niyang gawin.
“Kasi kahit ako, kapag meron akong ginawang hindi maganda, talagang kino-correct niya ako.
“So, I thank God for allowing me to discipline my son even as a young boy.
“So now, I just want to encourage him.
“I am just behind him in everything he does because I trust him.”
While Vico has his share of social-media detractors, the young councilor has dealt with negative feedback with humor, together with a reminder on the proper perspective of things.
To which Coney remarked, “Ako, kahit gusto ko nang [sumagot sa bashers]… Di ba, through the years, nakita niyo ako [na hindi pumapatol sa bashers]?
“Siguro nga na-impart ko rin sa kanila [Vico and two other children] yun.
“Wala namang mapapala sa ganun, e.
“You want to build up people. You don’t want to tear them down.”
