Newly-appointed MTRCB chair Rachel Arenas says she wants to regulate films shown through online apps.

Newly-appointed Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) Rachel Arenas announced her plan to regulate films accessible online.

According to a Philippine Star February 2 report, Arenas said that movies have become easily accessible through an “internet app."

Arenas revealed her proposal to put in place corresponding rules for viewing films through that app.

The former representative of Pangasinan's third district was not directly quoted about which specific Internet app she was referring to.

But in the market today, Netflix, Hooq, and iFlix are the prominent companies dealing with Internet apps for movies.

Streaming or downloading movies is possible not only through various apps, but also through online sites that show movies.

Arenas said that the MTRCB wants to encourage moviegoers to watch movies in theaters.

Arenas was officially appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as the new MTRCB chief starting January 20 until September 30, 2017.

She is the daughter of socialite and politician Rosemarie "Baby" Arenas, also the former representative of the same district in Pangasinan.
