David Licauco denies that his move to GMA-7 has anything to do with wanting to avoid being linked to Vice Ganda, a prized talent at ABS-CBN.

The showbiz newbie admits that he and Vice became friends after David won the title of Mr. Chinatown 2014 first runner-up.

With his title came several appearances in shows at the Kapamilya channel.

That same year, he was cast in the Vice starrer, The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin.

That was when talk linking the newcomer to the veteran comedian-TV host began circulating, a matter which, David says, was surprising to him.

Today, David is firmly within the Kapuso network, as part of the cast of the network's next big gamble on primetime, the series Mulawin vs Ravena.

Following this, the buzz that has surfaced is that David may simply have made the network jump to try and kill the rumors about him and Vice.

But David is clear about his answers in an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal): “It’s not true na iniiwasan ko siya.

Minsan, he’s inviting me sa ganitong event.

“Iba na kasi ang priorities ko, e. Hindi na ako palapunta sa mga events, unless it’s work.

“Naiintindihan naman ni Vice yun.”

In fact, he says, Vice is very supportive of David's new project for GMA-7.

PEP.ph had the opportunity to speak to David at the grand launch of Mulawin vs Ravena, which was held at Hive Hotel, on Scout Tuazon, Quezon City, last Monday, May 15.

DAVID’S ROLE. In Mulawin vs Ravena, David plays Malik, a half-Mulawin and half-human.

He admits to excitement about being part of the primetime series: “Nakakatuwa lang because the project is really good, and I’m very proud to be part of its big cast.

“Yung first taping day ko sa Batangas, nag-enjoy ako.

Parang you’re working on a Hollywood set.

“I also went into an intensive training kasi may mga action scenes kami.

“Walang problema sa akin kasi I’m active with sports, like basketball, boxing, Muay Thai, and arnis.

David adds, “Nakapag-guest na ako sa ilang shows sa GMA-7, pero this is my first regular show at telefantasya pa.

“I remember watching yung movie version ng Mulawin [2015].

Another thing adding to David's excitement is that, included in the cast of Mulawin vs Ravena, is his showbiz crush, Heart Evangelista.

Thrilled, the model-actor narrates, “Noong ma-meet ko siya for the first time, hindi ako makatingin sa kanya.

“It’s just nice to know that you are working on the same set with your long-time crush."

CHINESE FAMILY. David comes from a traditional Chinese family.

He knows that one day he will be called upon to take over some of the family businesses, but right now his family is quite supportive of his show business plans.

Says he, “I’m the second of four kids. Since tapos na ako sa pag-aaral, they expect me to get into our business agad.

“But I said na gusto kong subukan ulit ang showbiz. I want to experience working as an actor.

“I realized na hindi pala puro pagpapa-cute o papogi ang showbiz, it’s hard work din.

“I told my parents na I’m giving myself until I’m 30 to be in showbiz.
