Rob Jetten, the 38-year-old leader of the socially liberal and progressive Democrats 66 (D66) party, made history by becoming the youngest person ever to serve as prime minister of the Netherlands.
The Veghel-born Rob clinched victory after D66 earned the most votes at the recent election to beat the far-right Freedom Party (PVV) led by Geert Wilders.
“I am incredibly happy that we have become the biggest party in this election. A historic result for D66,” an elated Rob told reporters following the win.
He continued, "At the same time, I feel a great responsibility.”
Reports on Friday, October 31, 2025, projected a decisive victory for the D66 party, with the majority of votes from municipalities across the Netherlands already counted and results indicating that the PVV would be unable to close the gap.

Before this, he began his foray into politics as president of the Young Democrats in 2008.
He then served as a member of the Nijmegen Municipal Council from 2010 to 2017 and as a member of the House of Representatives from 2017 to 2023.
In 2024, he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister, minister for climate and energy policity, and briefly served as acting minister of Finance for four days.
ROB JETTEN WINNING IN LOVE, TOO
In addition to being the youngest prime minister in Dutch history, Rob is also the first openly gay person to hold the country’s highest office.
Rob is engaged to field hockey player and Olympian Nico Keenan, 28, from Argentina.
Nico celebrated Rob’s election victory with a TikTok video set to RAYE’s “Where the Hell Is My Husband?”
In the video, which has the caption "Election night, let's go," Rob and Nico donned matching suits and happily exchanged a quick kiss before heading out.
The couple's romance epitomizes the progressive views of Rob and his political party.
Historically, the D66 party has been known for its liberal stance, advocating for same-sex marriage and euthanasia.
