Alanis Morissette revealed that she identifies as pansexual.
During a guest appearance on the Handsome podcast last November 3, 2026, the Canadian singer-songwriter spoke about her sexuality with Tig Notaro and Mae Martin.
The topic came up during a lighthearted exchange about the heartbreak behind some of Alanis’s biggest hits.
Co-host Fortune Feimster told Alanis, "I’m sorry for the men that hurt you, but I’m not sorry for the songs that came from it."
Fortune was referring to Alanis’s landmark 1995 album Jagged Little Pill, which features some of her best-known songs, including “Hand in My Pocket,” “You Learn,” “Ironic,” “Head Over Feet,” and “You Oughta Know.”
She asked jokingly: "Did it make you want to be a lesbian at any point?”
Alanis replied casually, “I’m pansexual, so yeah."

The singer's admission caught Tig off guard, remarking, "Wait, you're not really pansexual, are you?"
Alanis answered, "You know, I like to leave it for the epilogue.
"I like to confuse people on the way out. Is it confusing?"
Pansexuality is a sexual, romantic, or emotional orientation defined by the potential to be attracted to people of any sex or gender identity, regardless of their gender.
Other Hollywood personalities who have come out as pansexual include Mae Whitman, Bella Thorne, Cara Delevingne, Demi Lovato, and Miley Cyrus.

HAPPILY MARRIED WITH KIDS
The 52-year-old Alanis has been married to songwriter Mario "Souleye" Treadway for 16 years.
They have three children together: Ever, 15; Onyx, 10; and Winter, seven.
In late 2020, Alanis discussed her marriage to Mario in an interview with People at the Elle USA Women in Concert Celebration.
“We’re helping each other out,” said Alanis.
“Relationships go from infatuation to power struggle and then most people break up.
"I think it’s getting juicy as we’re going on the third phase of helping each other heal and grow.”
When asked about the secret to a strong relationship, Alanis playfully replied, “Flirting.”
She elaborated, “Flirting is nice … dates, gifts, and compliments. Anytime he says anything about me emotionally, like ‘Wow, you’re really nurturing’ or ‘really patient,’ that’s like full-blown sexy time for me.”
