Shaina Magdayao is set to do something she hates in Lav Diaz's new movie titled Ang Panahon ng Halimaw.
She revealed that her role in the movie requires her to sing, which she used to do when she was younger but never had passion for it.
“That movie with Direk Lav is an anti-musical musical or a rock opera.
“It’s really something different and I hate singing, alam mo 'yan, wala talaga akong confidence.
“Ihagis niyo na lang ako kasi dancer ako, i-lift-lift niyo na lang ako, handang-handa ako diyan,” Shaina told select reporters who visited her recently in one of the branches of her and Ate Vina Morales's Ystilo Salon.
“Wala kasi talaga akong confidence when it comes to singing but do’n lumabas yung pagiging artista [singer].
“Kasi, nung nasa harapan na ako ng camera, kinakabahan man, nagawa ko naman [kumanta], so the whole film we will be singing pero walang melody.
“So it’s something very interesting at first time kong gagawin yung ganun and I think first time nilang makakapanood ng something like this.
“All I wanted is to work with Lav Diaz at ito nga ‘yun,” said The Better Half actress.
She felt nervous since she didn't have the opportunity to take up voice lessons.
“Dasal lang ang ginawa ko,” Shaina said when asked how she prepared for her role.
“Kasi at that time, I was doing The Better Half, so Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Better Half ako. On weekends, I fly to Malaysia kasi doon kami nag-shoot.
“So dasal lang talaga more than the voice lesson at paniniwala na baka naman may nakikita si Direk Lav kaya ako yung kinuha niya. Sobrang nahihiya talaga ako.”
Singing is not actually new to Shaina, who was trained to become a singer by her Daddy Ike, who was a former band member.
According to the ABS-CBN actress, her father wanted her to sing so that she and her Ate Vina could hold a concert together.
Unfortunately, this did not happen because Shaina was afraid of possible comparisons with her older sister whom she admits is way better than her.
Instead, the younger Magdayao focused on her other skills: acting and dancing.
Shaina believes that her father will be surprised once he sees her perform in the upcoming movie of Direk Lav also known by its international title The Season of the Devil.
She said, “Until now, hindi alam ng dad ko na it’s anti musical-musical.
“And the moment that he hears me sing, naku, sobrang matutuwa yun kasi siya talaga yung singer sa amin.
“He knows how I hate singing, pero iyon it’s a different experience, even the moviegoers next year,” Shaina ended with a smile.
In her Instagram account, Shaina disclosed that their movie was partly shot in Malaysia.
The Kapamilya actress also wrote in her Instagram account: "I am blessed to leave for Singapore soon to work with THE LAV DIAZ again...
"...and will be given the honor to work with my Boss/Actress Maam Charo Santos-Concio ----for the first time!!!
