The onslaught of typhoons Rolly and Ulysses left major parts of the country battered.

As organizations and volunteers find ways to help affected communities, Kim Chiu has come to realize that a change needs to happen in the country.

For her, change for the better can happen when leaders show "care" for the people.

The ABS-CBN actress-host spoke briefly about this realization in a media interview last Saturday, November 14, 2020.

She said, "Ako naman, I'm hopeful with… iyong change, yes, the change that we needed.

"Kasi, hindi naman magbabago lahat ito if iyong leader natin meron talaga siyang care sa lahat ng tao."

Kim added, "I think iyong nangyayari ngayon is nakikita natin that puwede magbago iyong ganito sistema.

"Kasi kung ganito at ganito pa rin, walang magbabago talaga."

This is not the first time Kim conveyed her disappointment in the country's leaders.

After President Rodrigo Duterte's fifth State of the Nation Address in July 2020, Kim shared on Instagram Stories a Forbes article on how female-led countries were able to successfully contain the spread of COVID-19 in their respective countries.

Kim wrote in her Instagram story (published as is): "#SonaAll welfare ng tao ang iniisip mahirap man, middle class man or mayaman man. [pensive face emoji] mga tao muna bago ang sariling agenda. [pensive face emoji]"

Staging a benefit concert

Kim is currently planning a benefit concert to help the survivors of both Rolly and Ulysses.

When she was initially pitched the idea of mounting a virtual concert, Kim was admittedly hesitant of the idea.

She said, "Sabi ko, hindi ko kaya gumawa ng concert to end this year. Parang, 'Para saan?'"

The typhoons later changed Kim's perspective on the concert.

"Now that this happened, parang, I think it's a way na sabi ni God, 'Gawin, pero tumulong tayo.' I'm happy also to do that.

"I'm excited to do that and, at the same time, it will help a lot of people."

Kim will be inviting YouTube content creators to take part in her concert.
