Remember the tandem of former singers Carol Banawa and Josh Santana in the ABS-CBN prime-time series Bituin?
Eighteen years after the series ended in 2003, Carol and Josh are being seen together again through a virtual duet of the song "Kailangan Kita."
Carol posted their cover on her YouTube channel on July 13, 2021.
She simply wrote in the caption, "To our Josh-Melody Fans :) We hope you enjoy this cover of 'Kailangan Kita'"
"Kailangan Kita" was the theme song of their love team, and a staple in their repertoire during concerts and musical numbers.
Josh, who also sang the Tagalog theme song of Meteor Garden, posted his photo with Carol from their video call.
He wrote in the caption, "After 18 years…. Unbelievable. We didn’t practice for this one but maybe we just know each other too well as singers that the recording came out fine even though we are miles apart."
Josh also called Carol "a gift" to him, and he looks forward to singing with her live again.
He continued, "Thank you @iamcarolbanawa . You are a gift to me. Your kindness shines as bright as your singing voice. Looking forward to singing live again with you. I am very happy we both ended up in the medical field. Who would have thought? Life is full of surprises! Let this one be a surprise for all our fans. Enjoy!"
In another Instagram post, Josh said that it was a blessing for him to do a duet with a "legend" in the industry.
Carol told Josh in the comments section, "I am blessed to have known you as well. you are still the kind hearted person that I had the chance to sing with 18 years ago. Thank you for what you do. and yes, it is a blessing that our hearts have led us to our current profession now.. to more collabs! Basta lang may time tayo isingit sa trabaho naten. stay safe and God bless you!"
Josh and Carol have long left showbiz and, currently, are both in the medical field.
Carol is a nurse in the United States, while Josh is a doctor here in the Philippines.
Their former series, Bituin, aired in ABS-CBN from 2002 to 2003, and was dubbed the first musical teleserye on TV.
The series was top-billed by Carol, who played Melody, who was forced by her mother (Nora Aunor) to drop her dream of becoming a singer.
Josh—who is also named Josh in the series—was a pop heartthrob who fell in love with Melody.
Their love team was then called JoshMel, a portmanteau of Josh and Melody.
