But as previously announced, John Lloyd is set to do a sitcom with the Kapuso network, which was reported on PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) as a done deal on September 2021.

It was in May 2021 when Wowowin host Willie Revillame first announced his plans of producing a sitcom for John Lloyd Cruz in GMA-7, which would serve as the actor’s comeback project after being on hiatus for four years.

Andrea Torres is said to be portraying John Lloyd’s leading lady in the sitcom.

On June 1, 2021, GMA executive Annette Gozon-Valdes confirmed that the network is in talks with John Lloyd for a possible exclusive contract.

She also mentioned that this is the “right time” for John Lloyd to be a Kapuso. Twenty years ago, John Lloyd was supposed to transfer to GMA-7 but a “legal obstacle” got in the way, referring to his contract with ABS-CBN.

But for four months, there were no developments about John Lloyd’s move to GMA-7. At one point, there was a rumor that his sitcom will no longer push through.

On Friday, November 5, GMA-7 posted teasers about a mystery actor who is “happy to be back.”

The word HAPPY is written in all caps, with the letters PPY in one row. Netizens interpreted the letters as a clue that stands for “Popoy,” John Lloyd’s famous character in the 2007 movie One More Chance.

John Lloyd started his career in ABS-CBN in 1996 as part of Star Magic, the talent-management arm of the Kapamilya network. One of his first projects was the youth-oriented series Gimik.

In 1999, he played the lead role in the Sunday teen show Tabing Ilog. His breakthrough role then came in 2002, when he played the lead in the prime-time series Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay.

It was also in that show where his love team with Bea Alonzo, who is also now an exclusive Kapuso artist, was born.

John Lloyd and Bea then did more shows as a love team, including It Might Be You (2003), Ikaw Ang Lahat Sa Akin (2005), Maging Sino Ka Man (2006), I Love Betty La Fea (2008), and A Beautiful Affair (2012).

They also did movies under ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema: My First Romance (2003), Now That I Have You (2004), Close To You (2006), One More Chance (2007), Miss You Like Crazy (2010), The Mistress (2012), and A Second Chance (2015).

John Lloyd was also paired with Sarah Geronimo, Toni Gonzaga, Angel Locsin, and Jennylyn Mercado in different Star Cinema movies.

John Lloyd’s last official project with ABS-CBN was the sitcom Home Sweetie Home with Toni, which ran from 2014 to 2020. In 2017, John Lloyd left the show when he decided to take an indefinite leave from show business.

John Lloyd then focused on his personal and family life with ex-girlfriend Ellen Adarna and their son, Elias.

In 2020, there were talks that John Lloyd is planning to return to show business. ABS-CBN even announced that he and Bea are doing a reunion movie titled No Goodbyes.

Developments about the project, however, have yet to be disclosed especially now that both Bea and John Lloyd are now with GMA-7.
