GMA News pillar Mike Enriquez is taking a leave of absence from 24 Oras and his other duties as a GMA anchor and RGMA Network, Inc. president.
According to a statement released by GMA Network this Monday afternoon, December 13, Mike will take a “medical leave of absence” as he is set to “undergo a medical procedure that will require hospital confinement.”
He is also advised by his doctor to isolate for a minimum of three months.
However, Mike is “expected to be back at work” during the Eleksyon 2022 coverage of GMA Network.
GMA Network Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon supports Mike’s decision to take a leave in order to undergo the medical procedure he needs.
Gozon said in the statement, “We ask for everyone’s prayers and we wish him Godspeed. We look forward to welcoming Mike back as soon as he is cleared to return to work.”
Meanwhile, Mike looks forward to his healing and coming back to work for the Eleksyon 2022 coverage.
Here is GMA Network’s full statement:
“GMA Network, Inc. has announced that its senior radio-tv anchor and concurrent RGMA Network, Inc. president Mike Enriquez will take a medical leave of absence. He will undergo a medical procedure that will require hospital confinement and, afterwards, a minimum of three months isolation period as advised by his doctor. He is expected to be back at work in time for GMA’s massive Eleksyon 2022 coverage.
“In a statement, GMA Network Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon said, ‘We support Mike’s decision to undergo the procedure that he needs. We ask for everyone’s prayers and we wish him Godspeed. We look forward to welcoming Mike back as soon as he is cleared to return to work.’
“Mike said he looks forward to the healing he has been praying and preparing for. He also looks forward to resuming his duties specially for GMA’s Eleksyon 2022 coverage.”
Last week, Atom Araullo has already started reporting on the 24 Oras studio in place of Mike.
This is not the first time that Mike had to undergo a medical leave.
On August 22, 2018, Mike went live on his dzBB radio show to reveal his kidney condition and his scheduled bypass operation.
At the time, Atom temporarily did the anchor duties for 24 Oras.
It was in November 2018 when Mike resumed his duties as 24 Oras anchor and returned to his radio show after a three-month medical leave.
