Jericho Rosales is set to headline the upcoming international drama series Sellblock.
Sellblock is a co-production between ABS-CBN International Production and Co-Production and Philippines’ BlackOps Studios Asia, the United States’ Story Arch Pictures, and Hong Kong’s Agog Film.
The announcement was made by ABS-CBN International Production and Co-Production head Ruel Santos Bayani through an article published in international news website Variety on March 15, 2022.
Bayani said, “ABS-CBN is excited to announce that Sellblock will be headlined by our very own Jericho Rosales.
“In his nearly three-decade-long career, Jericho has earned the title of ‘Asian Drama King’ and is one of our network’s finest homegrown talents and country’s top leading men.
“We are thrilled for this opportunity to showcase Filipino talent on the global stage.”
Sellblock was first announced in February as part of BlackOps Studios Asia’s upcoming projects.
Based on its official Instagram account, BlackOps is an “award-winning production company in the Philippines with main focus on creating Asian genre for the worldwide audience.”
Aside from Jericho, Sellblock also stars Tirso Cruz III, Cherry Pie Picache, Ronnie Lazaro, Rosanna Roces, Mon Confiado, and RK Bagatsing.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News’ Miguel Dumaual in February 2022, Bayani revealed that Sellblock will be filmed at the ABS-CBN Soundstage in Bulacan.
Bayani said, “They will be using our sound stages because big sets are going to be built. It’s a prison drama. They are in Bilibid.
“We’re building the set because it is very difficult filming a whole series [in an actual prison]. Hindi naman kaya na sa actual location kami mag-su-shoot.”
Currently, the ABS-CBN Soundstage is being utilized for the production of Darna: The TV Series headlined by Jane de Leon, Janella Salvador, and Joshua Garcia.
About the project, Bayani revealed, “It’s something we’ve been developing pre-pandemic pa, 2019.
“We were already supposed to produce it, and then everything happened — the pandemic and the shutdown — so na-delay.
“We thought hindi matutuloy, but then, nagakaroon ng new partners and then na-revive.”
Currently, Jericho is still in New York as he takes acting workshops. His last TV project was the 2018 drama series Halik.
In April 2021, Jericho was hailed the number one in PEP.ph’s list of Greatest Actors in Leading Roles.
ABS-CBN has yet to announce the filming and airing date of Sellblock.
Apart from Sellblock, ABS-CBN International Production and Co-Production is also producing two international dramas: Arjo Atayde's Cattleya Killer and Sharon Cuneta's Concepcion.
