Who Should See It?
The film is likely to appeal to these groups of moviegoers:
- Swan Lake fans
- Ballet aficionados
- Moviegoers seeking something unique
As someone who falls under both categories 1 and 3, I am especially excited to experience this iconic ballet on IMAX.
Having watched the animated Barbie of Swan Lake (2003) more than 10 times as a child, I’ve always had a soft spot for the story.
In June 2019, I had the privilege of seeing a live performance of Swan Lake by the Moscow Ballet at the New Frontier Theater, which further deepened my appreciation for this classic.
With these experiences in mind, I have certain expectations for this upcoming screening.
If you plan to watch, it’s good to familiarize yourself with its story.
Swan Lake: Synopsis
Swan Lake tells the story of Prince Siegfried, who, on his birthday, must choose a bride in accordance with his royal duty.
Longing to marry for love, Siegfried encounters Odette, a princess cursed by the evil sorcerer Rothbart to live as a swan.
The two fall in love, and Siegfried promises to break the curse.
But Rothbart learns of their plans and sends his daughter, Odile, disguised as Odette, to deceive Siegfried, leading to a tragic conclusion.
Swan Lake: Cast
The film features an extraordinary cast of dancers, led by Sae Eun Park in the dual roles of Odette and Odile.

Park is the first Asian ballerina to achieve the prestigious rank of danseuse étoile at the Paris Opera Ballet, the oldest ballet company in the world.

Prince Siegfried is portrayed by Paul Marque, another danseur étoile from the Paris Opera.

The villainous sorcerer Rothbart is played by Pablo Legasa.

What to Look Forward to
The film's most striking feature is undoubtedly the dancing.
Audiences will be mesmerized by the grace, skill, and emotion the dancers pour into each movement.
During the special screening at IMAX Aura on November 6, the audience gave multiple rounds of applause in appreciation of the dancers’ performances.
Paul Marque shared on Instagram that the live performances received standing ovations.
For fans of dance films, this production takes things to a whole new level. The actors' emotional expressions are reflected in their movements, making the performances truly magical.
The cinematography is also superb. The camera follows the dancers closely, highlighting their every move, with wide shots reserved for the larger group scenes.
The film's two-hour-and-20-minute runtime felt somewhat lengthy, with a slow start that made the beginning feel a bit dragging.
But the children seemed enchanted by it, with some even mimicking the ballerinas’ moves.
