Actor Janus del Prado sparked online discourse after publishing a Facebook post on July 18, 2025, where he directly addressed Awra Briguela, and expressed frustration over what he perceives as divisive behavior within the LGBTQIA+ community.

In the now-viral post, Janus accused Awra of fanning resentment against the gay community through what he described as “entitlement.”

He warned that such behavior is beginning to alienate allies and spark “trans fatigue” among Filipinos.

"HURTING" THE CAUSE

Janus claimed that certain gender identity conversations are eclipsing the voices of biological women, as well as lesbians and gays—who he believes are being pushed out of focus within the LGBTQIA+ movement.

“Awra. You are doing too much to the point that you are hurting the gay community,” the outspoken actor began.

“People are starting to turn against the entire gay community because of this kind of entitlement. Nadadamay sila sa bashing.

“Not to mention overshadowing the identity and attention from biological women, their struggles and their place in society.

“Stop acting like you are being oppressed because you are not.”

He then criticized what he calls the knee-jerk adoption of Western trends regarding gender and pronouns, alleging that these shifts have led to cultural and institutional collapse in other countries.

“Nakigaya lang naman tayo sa pauso ng US and other western countries about the gender alphabet and neo pronouns. And now, ano nangyayari sa kanila?

“They are suffering the consequences and starting to reject the whole ideology.”

Janus furthered: “It even destroyed Hollywood, Sports and their Education System. Balik na sila sa two gender policy.

“Makinig kayo sa mga nauna sa inyong Gays like Ricky Reyes. They know better.

“And quite frankly, the LGBT community hasn’t been about the Lesbians and the Gays in a very long time.

“You made it all about these neo genders and pronouns that lack common sense.”

JANUS'S WORD OF ADVICE

Janus's post included a strong appeal to gay individuals, urging them to hold members of the community accountable when their actions become, in his words, “wala na sa hulog.”

He concluded (published as is): “And to the gay community. Please speak up pag wala na sa hulog yung ginagawa ng miyembro ng kumunidad niyo.

“Don’t be an enabler just because they are a part of your group.

“It will only hurt the gay community and what you stand for. Thank you.”

He emphasized that personal identity should not be forced on others, especially when it contradicts their values or beliefs.

“If you want to call yourself a ‘She’ or a ‘Her’ then go, live and enjoy your life the way you want to. No one’s stopping you.

“Just don’t expect and force everyone else to play along.”

He reasoned: “Just like you, we all have our own beliefs, values, principles and free will. There is nothing wrong with using proper grammar to address other people.

“Stop the gaslighting. Nakakapagod na makitungo at makisama sa inyo. Nagkakaroon na ng Trans fatigue ang mga Pilipino.”

At this writing, Awra has not issued a public response to the post.

While some netizens praised Del Prado for “saying what others are afraid to,” others condemned the post as transphobic and out of touch with the current realities of gender discourse—accusing him of perpetuating harmful narratives.

ROOT OF THE CONTROVERSY

The statement comes shortly after Awra’s graduation from senior high school, where she celebrated the milestone with a post.

Her use of “she/her” pronouns, acknowledged in several congratulatory posts, prompted unfavorable reactions from some online personalities.

Among them is influencer Jack Argota, who misgendered Awra in a viral comment, writing: “Anong her? Goodluck bro!”

That incident reignited debate around gender identity, pronoun usage, and what constitutes respect or offense in online spaces.

Meanwhile, Awra harnessed strength to ignore the hate, abiding by her supportive talent manager and showbiz mom, Vice Ganda.

Via Instagram Story on July 17, 2025, she highlighted Vice Ganda's comment: “Congratulations!!!! Never mind the noise. Focus on your win. Love u!”

In turn, Awra replied, “Thank you so much My Lovely Muder, I wouldn't even be here if it weren't for you.

“I promise I'll keep focusing on the love and the people who truly matter just like you taught me.

“The rest? They're just background noise. I love you so much My Lovely Muder.”
