Maria Isabel Lopez admits feeling overwhelmed by the reactions she got about her red-carpet appearance at the 69th Cannes Film Festival in France last week.
The former Bb. Pilipinas-Universe winner was part of the delegate of Ma' Rosa, one of the competing films in the annual prestigious film festival this year.
The film is directed by Brillante Mendoza and stars Cannes Best Actress winner Jaclyn Jose.
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) was able to interview Maria Isabel yesterday, May 24, at the premiere night after-party of Love Me Tomorrow held at SM Megamall.
She said, “Na-overwhelm ako, kasi nga after the red carpet, nagpunta ako sa room ni Brillante [Mendoza].
“May nagsabi sa akin, ‘O, Isabel, nasa red carpet fashion award ka!’
“Pero when the tweets kept coming, nagkaroon ng mga meme, doon ako na-overwhelm!
“Kasi nga, hindi ko naman akalain na ganun yung response.
“Nahiya nga ako actually kila Direk at saka kay Jaclyn.
“Kasi, kumbaga, parang yung merit noong paglabas ng Ma’ Rosa, parang I’m getting all the merits because of the gown.
“Ang babaw naman noon.”
Prior to this interview, Maria Isabel has already apologized to Direk Brillante and Jaclyn for stealing the scene during the red-carpet event.
She continued, “Kumbaga, we have to acknowledge the fact na ang hirap makapasok sa Cannes.
“It’s still Brillante Mendoza who put me sa Cannes.
“So, ayun, medyo nahiya ako, nag-apologize ako.”
According to Isabel, Jaclyn and Direk Brillante deserved all the attention, most especially when Jaclyn won the Best Actress award.
“Noong nanalo si Jaclyn ng Best Actress, mas nag-celebrate ako.
“Kasi, sabi ko, she really deserves that. They deserve all the attention.
“Ang gown is just so shallow for me.
“Ang talagang worthy of the attention is the film Ma’ Rosa and Jaclyn winning the Best Actress award. Parang Oscars yan, e.”
THANKFUL TO NETIZENS. However, the 1982 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe titleholder would like to thank the netizens that took notice of her get-up.
“Gusto ko lang pasalamatan lahat ng nag-tweet, gumawa ng meme.
“Sabi ko, what have I done to deserve this.
“Kumbaga, na-magnify, tapos it also felt good kasi yung mga memes nila!
“May nakalagay nga doon na banned ako sa Binibining Pilipinas, pero dito sa Cannes, at least pasok ako.
“Laugh lang ako nang laugh. I find it so hilarious.
“So, thank you sa napakagandang response.”
However, Isabel admitted that there were also negative remarks about her gown.
She then revealed that she did her own hair and make-up during the red-carpet event.
“Of course, you cannot please everybody, there are people who said na dapat tinaas ko yung hair ko.
“Kasi hindi ko ito pinaghandaan. I put my own make-up, I fixed my own hair.
“Hindi ko siya kinarir kumbaga,” Maria Isabel concluded.
