The biographical film, Pedro Calungsod: Batang Martir, will finally make it to the big screen after two to three years of intense research by director/writer Francis O. Villacorta. The film, which stars GMA-7 actor Rocco Nacino in the title role, is an official entry in the 2013 Metro Manila Film Festival and will be released on December 25 along with other seven competing movies.
The biopic will depict the life of San Pedro Calungsod, the 2nd Filipino saint to be canonized by the Roman Catholic church following San Lorenzo Ruiz. The film will narrate the young Pedro's journey after he leaves his home in the Visayas to join the Jesuit priest, Fr. Diego San Vitores, in spreading Catholicism among the Chamorro natives of the Marianas Islands (now Guam).
Pedro Calungsod: Batang Martir, also stars Christian Vasquez, Jestoni Alarcon, Arthur Solinap, Jao Mapa, Victor Basa, Marc Justine Alvarez, JM Villacorta, Don Gordon Bell, Robert Correa, Johan Santos, Alvin Aragon, Juancho Triviño, and former bold star Isadora, among others.
