“Bastos kayo!”
Ito ang mensaheng ipinarating ng award-winning director na si Erik Matti kay John Arcilla at sa Star Magic, na nangangalaga ngayon sa career ng aktor.
Si Erik ang direktor ng On The Job: The Missing 8, ang pelikulang nagbigay sa 56-year-old actor ng Volpi Cup, na katumbas ng best actor award, mula sa 78th Venice Film Festival noong September 2021.
Noong February 22, 2023, pinagtibay ng Senado ang resolusyong pinararangalan si John dahil sa tagumpay nito sa prestihiyosong international film festival.
Si Senator Lito Lapid ang nagsulong ng Senate Resolution 490 na kumikilala sa world-class talent ng mga Pilipino.
“Recognizing the achievement of John Arcilla is in accord with the Constitution’s acknowledgement of the importance of arts and culture in fostering patriotism and nationalism and in promoting total human liberation and development,” pahayag ni Senator Lapid.
May dahilan para masaktan ang damdamin ni Erik dahil hindi binanggit sa mga social media post ng pasasalamat ni John at ng Star Magic ang pamagat ng kanilang critically acclaimed movie.
Patutsada ni Direk Erik: “Ano kayang movie nakapanalo kay @johnarcilla ng Volpi cup? Ni hindi man lang nila ma-mention ni @starmagicphils yung movie na nagbigay sa kanya ng parangal?
“Medyo in-expect ko na yun sa Abs na di mag-mention kasi nung may prangkisa pa sila ganun na sila e. Pag di pabor sa kanila, dedma. Pero yung mismong artista ng pelikula di man lang ma-mention ang movie?
“Pwera na kaming mga gumawa, ok lang di masabi pero sana yung movie man lang i-acknowledge. Ang Senado nga ni-recognize mismong movie na pinanalunan mo pero ikaw di mo ma-mention?
“Ako na magsasabi, 'Salamat sa On The Job: The Missing 8 na movie na binigyan ako ng pagkakataon magawa ang role ni Sisoy Salas na ikinapanalo ko ng Venice Film Festival Volpi Cup award nung 2022.'
“Lahat ng sponsor mo sa derma at diet mo minention mo yung movieng nagpanalo sa’yo di mo masabi?!!
"Bastos kayo!”
Mahahalata sa pahayag ni Direk Erik na nainsulto siya nang husto sa naging trato ni John at ng Star Magic sa pelikula nila.
Kung hindi pa umalma si Direk Erik, na naging instrumento sa tagumpay ni John, hindi nito papalitan at ng talent management agency na namamahala sa kanyang career ang kanilang mga social media post tungkol sa pagkilala ng Senado sa Volpi Cup na napanalunan ng aktor noong September 2021.
Edited na ang mga social media post ni John at ng Star Magic na mahirap itanggi dahil may hawak na resibo si Matti — ang mga screenshot ng mga orihinal na pahayag ng magkabilang panig na hindi nagbigay ng pagpapahalaga sa On The Job: The Missing 8.
Ito na ang edited post ni John na mabilis na bumawi at binanggit ang pamagat ng kanilang pelikula nang makarating sa kanya ang sentimyento ni Direk Erik:
“On Feb 22, 2023 The Senate of the Philippines made a Resolution for yours truly about the works I have done on performing Arts and Film and specifically from the Accolades received by Our Film On the Job directed by Erik Matti and Produced by Reality Studios of Dondon Monteverde.
“The resolution No. 490 was Adopted by all the Senators and amended Officially as Resolution No 43. It is such an Honor to be recognized by Award giving bodies in our country most specially by Global Award giving bodies.

Samantala, binago na rin ng Star Magic ang kanilang naunang Instagram post dahil hindi na nila ginamit ang litrato ng pagbisita nina John, Star Magic Head Laurenti Dyogi, at Star Magic Head of Finance Ed Capulong sa Senado.
Ipinalit sa original Instagram post ang larawan ni Arcilla na may nakasaad na congratulatory message:
