MISS SAIGON IN MANILA CAST
The Manila production will be directed by Laurence Connor with musical staging by Bob Avian and additional choreography by Geoffrey Garratt.
The Filipino-Australian actress Abigail Adriano will play the lead role of Kim.
Abigail previously played Kim in the musical's Sydney Opera House production.
To date, her portrayal of Kim is her first professional lead role.
She began her performance training at the age of six, and has studied both classical and contemporary music under the renowned voice teacher Peter Bodnar. Her first theater role was playing Alice in Matilda the Musical, a production by Tim Minchin. Aside from theater, she has appeared in the Netflix/ABC television series The Unlisted and competed in The Voice Kids Australia.
The production in Manila also features Seann Miley Moore as the Engineer.
Seann is a Filipino-Australian singer known for competing in season 12 of the UK's X-Factor and season 10 of The Voice Australia.
Kiara Dario plays the role of Gigi, while Nigel Huckle, an Australian-born American actor, is cast as Chris.
Nigel, who also played Chris in the musical's production at the Sydney Opera House, is also a member of The Ten Tenors, an Australian music ensemble that enjoys considerable success at home and internationally.
Furthermore, the stage will be set for young local talent to dazzle audiences, as auditions for the character of Tam spotlight the nation's emerging child stars.
Theresa Nguyen, the resident director for Miss Saigon, expressed her delight at the exceptional talent displayed by the children at the auditions held on January 11, 2024.
She said, "Tam is the lead Kim's son. He is approximately three years old, that's the character we're looking for. For the kids, we want someone who follows directions, has spirit, has energy, sweetness, and charm.
"We are looking for kids who are naturals. Some of our best Tams have no theater, no acting, no dance experience. But they just have a good spirit, natural storytelling abilities, can follow directions and disciplined.”
According to Theresa, they would typically select at least two children as understudies who can have the chance to play the role of Tam.
However, this time, each of the five chosen will be allotted their own scheduled performances during the Manila run.
