Excited si Direk Erik Matti sa paglahok ng pelikula niyang On The Job: The Missing 8 sa pinakamatandang filmfest ng mundo.
“Today is the opening of the 78th Venice International Film Festival where On The Job: The Missing 8 will have its world premiere as part of the Official Selection-Main Competition,” post ni Direk Erik sa Facebook nitong Setyembre 1, Miyerkules ng gabi.
“We will carry the banner of the Philippines as we walk the red carpet this coming week.
“We don’t need to win any award. Just having a Filipino film amongst the international films in competition is enough to show the world that the Philippines still makes movies.”
Ang crime thriller na On The Job: The Missing 8 ay sequel ng On The Job (2013).
Nakasentro ang istorya nito sa isang tiwaling media man (John Arcilla), na naghahanap ng hustisya para sa pagkawala ng kanyang mga kasamahan na nakasagupa ang isang inmate-hitman (Dennis Trillo).
Tampok din sa pelikula sina Dante Rivero, Christopher de Leon, Lotlot de Leon, Leo Martinez, Joey Marquez, Eric Fructuoso, Vandolph Quizon, Agot Isidro, Sol Cruz, Wendell Ramos, Lao Rodriguez, Andrea Brillantes, Isabelle de Leon, Megan Young, Levi Ignacio, at Carlitos Siguion-Reyna.
Dalawampung iba pang pelikula ang kaagaw ng On The Job: The Missing 8 para sa Golden Lion (Leone d’Oro), ang pinakamataas na premyo sa Venezia 78 Competition.
Ang South Korean director na si Bong Joon-ho (na nagdirek ng pelikulang Parasite) ang mamumuno lupon ng mga hurado.
Hanggang Setyembre 11 ang 78th Venice International Film Festival sa Italya. Ang tema nito ngayong 2021 ay “The Venice Biennale: Cinema in the Time of COVID.”
Sa Setyembre 10, Biyernes ng 2:45 p.m., ang gala premiere ng On The Job: The Missing 8 sa Sala Grande.
Siyanga pala, kalakip ng FB post ni Direk Erik ang Venice poster ng pelikula, na dinisenyo nina Dan Matutina at Ryan Jay Agsawa.
“We are all excited to present our film to the international audience,” sabi pa ni Direk Erik.
Bukas, September 2, ire-release ang Venice trailer ng On The Job: The Missing 8.
Dagdag ni Direk Erik, “Finally, you will see a first look of the film that we worked so hard for many years.”

Ang Venice filmfest ay isa sa Big Three film festivals—the most prestigious—along with Cannes filmfest (France) and Berlin international filmfest (Germany).
Ang On The Job: The Missing 8 ang nag-iisang Asian film na napili para sa Main Competition ng 78th Venice international filmfest.
Bago ang Friday afternoon gala ng On The Job: The Missing 8 ay dalawa ang screening nito sa Setyembre 9, Huwebes — 7:30 p.m. sa Sala Giardino, at 8:00 p.m. sa Sala Darsena.
Pagkatapos ng gala premiere ay sabay ang dalawa pa nitong screening sa Setyembre 10, Biyernes — 6:30 p.m. sa Rossini 1 at sa IMG Candiani 1.
Sa huling araw ng filmfest, Setyembre 11, Sabado ay tatlo pa ang screening nito — 9:30 a.m. sa IMG Candiani 1 at Rossini 1, at 2:00 p.m. sa Sala Darsena.

Sa Setyembre 9, Huwebes, ay magdadaos ang FDCP ng mga kaganapan sa Venice. Merong On The Job Cocktails, Philippines Production Table at Spot on Screens sa Venice Production Bridge, at ang Panel Discussion na "From the Philippines to the World: The On The Job Franchise and Exploring New Ways of Global Content Distribution."
Ang Venice Film Festival Programmer Paolo Bertolin and moderator kasama sina Direk Matti at producer Dondon Monteverde bilang panelists.
Sa Setyembre 12, Linggo, ang tatlong unang bahagi ng six-part HBO Asia Original series na On The Job ay ipapalabas sa HBO GO.
Facebook post ni Direk Erik nitong Agosto 31, Martes, “Showing both the film and series in Venice and Hbo respectively give us so much pride not just for me as a filmmaker but as a Filipino director part of the larger Filipino cinema community in the Philippines.
“We are hit the hardest by this pandemic and this luck or chance that we got on both fronts, allowing our piece of work to be seen by many despite having the theaters closed, is a testament that the Filipino filmmaker can do it.
“On The Job signals a new world for cinema in the Philippines. Released as a movie in a prestigious film festival. And released as a series in a global streamer. When it used to be just either prestige or economics, now it can be both given the new world we are in.
“There is still hope for all of us.
“I invite you all to see the premiere in Venice. Or stream it on #HBO either way, it gets the film seen by many worldwide which is really the point of making movies for me.”

Hindi ko lang alam kung ganito rin ang reaksiyon ni Erik Matti sa pagsama ng FDCP sa pelikula niya sa Press Release nito para sa 1st Philippine Film Industry Month na hine-herald bilang propogandang tulong at pagsuporta ng Pangulo sa industriya ng pelikulang Pilipino.
Ang sabi nga ng premyadong filmmaker na si Jay Altarejos: “Ay Madam, Liza Diño-Seguerra, 'wag na po nating ipagpilitan. Konting sensitivity naman sa kasalukuyang danas ng sambayanan.
“Ang pelikula po at anumang sining ay dapat sumalamin sa katotohanan. Ang artista po ay dapat nasa tamang panig ng kasaysayan kailan man. Dapat kakampi ng bayan at sambayanan.
“Yung Pestedente po ay walang suporta di lamang sa industriya ng pelikula kung hindi pati sa mga mamamayang Pilipino. Ang suporta niya ay nasa pamilya niya, at sa mga tiwaling opisyal ng gobyernong ito.
“Alam niyo po ba ang mga nakawan sa DOH at iba pang ahensiya ng gobyerno? Alam niyo po ba ang patuloy na panggigipit at pagpatay sa mga taong lumalaban para sa sambayanan?
“Alam niyo po ba ang kapabayaang ginagawa sa mga healthcare workers natin? Huwag naman nating idamay ang industriya sa propaganda ng isang tiwaling pamumuno.”
