Ang opening film ng 20th Cinemalaya filmfest na The Gospel of the Beast ay ipapalabas sa Agosto 2, Biyernes ng 7:00 pm sa apat na sinehan ng Ayala Malls Manila Bay — Cinemas 2, 7, 9, at 10.
LIBRE po ito. Ipamimigay ang mga tiket on a first-come, first-served basis two hours before the screening schedule.
This is the first time na apat na sinehan ang pagpapalabasan ng opening film ng Cinemalaya. Before, laging isa lamang sinehan.
Apat na sinehan din kaya ang pagpapalabasan ng closing film na Bona, starring Nora Aunor?
Ayon sa source ng PEP Troika, “Maliliit po kasi ang capacity ng mga sinehan sa Ayala Malls Manila Bay. Iyon pong pinakamalaking sinehan, more or less ay 400 seats.
“Hintayin na lang po natin ang official statement kung ilang sinehan ang pagpapalabasan ng closing film.”
20TH CINEMALAYA OPENING FILM, MULTI-AWARDED
Regional film ang The Gospel of the Beast, na tinampukan nina Jansen Magpusao at Ronnie Lazaro, sa direksyon ni Sheron Dayoc.
Matatandaang nagwaging best actor si Jansen para sa pelikulang John Denver Trending sa 15th Cinemalaya filmfest noong 2019. Isinulat at idinirek iyon ni Arden Rod Condez, at isa sa producers si Sheron.
Sa 47th Gawad Urian noong Hunyo, nominado ang The Gospel of the Beast sa mga kategoryang best director, best actor (Jansen Magpusao), best supporting actor (Ronnie Lazaro), best cinematography (Rommel Andreo Sales), at best editing (Lawrence Ang, Benjo Ferrer).
Nagwagi ito sa dalawang kategorya, best supporting actor at best editing.
Kinilala rin ang The Gospel of the Beast bilang Best Feature Film sa 2024 Bali International Film Festival. Nominado itong Best Film sa 2023 Tokyo International Film Festival.
Maliban sa Ayala Malls Manila Bay, mapapanood sa Greenbelt, Trinoma, UP Town Center, at Market Market ang iba pang mga pelikula ng Cinemalaya XX (Agosto 2-11, 2024).

I will definitely support this Cinemalaya Bente opening film by the production of my Ricky Lee classmate Sheron Dayoc.
The Gospel of the Beast is a coming-of-age film about Mateo, a 15-year old boy known for being a troublemaker in school but possessing a genuine heart for his two siblings.
He assumed the role of man of the house after his father went missing, doing his best to care for them. However, a confrontation with his schoolmate escalates into violence. Mateo accidentally takes the life of his rival.
With nowhere else to turn, Mateo seeks help from a man he barely knows, Berto, who persuades him to run away, and introduces him to the world of the syndicate.
Over time, Berto evolves into a father figure for Mateo. As their unique father-son relationship grows, Mateo gradually learns the harsh realities of life.
Mateo's story is based on a deep, dark secret held by someone close to director Sharon Dayoc's family, whom he knows to be a caring and loving person.
“He candidly shared with me that until he started working for our family, he used to be a hitman for a vigilante group in my hometown,” Dayoc reveals.
While the fact that the film is set in the Philippines, Dayoc emphasized that its themes are universal.
“In a world that continues to grapple with various forms of violence, including war, domestic abuse, modern-day slavery, and other affronts to human dignity, the story speaks to the broader human experience —the struggle for justice and enduring hope — through the character of Mateo."

Marami na sa mga film enthusiast ang excited at inaabangan na itong pagsisimula ng Cinemalaya Bente: Loob Lalim Lakas.
Noong nakaraang taon ay ginanap ito sa PICC, at medyo challenging sa mga manonood dahil hindi theater type ang venue na pinagpalabasan ng mga pelikula.
Masakit sa puwet ang pag-upo mo at pagtiyagaan ang bawat pelikulang kalahok.
Mas maganda ngayon dahil sa mismong sinehan na mapapanood at marami pa sa amin ang hindi pa gaanong pamilyar sa Ayala Malls Manila Bay.
Kaya nag-aalala ako nang nagkaroon ng sunog doon dalawang linggo na ang nakaraan. Mabuti at hindi kumalat at kaagad naapula ang apoy.
Kaya sa tingin ko, mas kumportable ang panonood ng Cinemalaya XX movies ngayong taon.
20TH CINEMALAYA CLOSING FILM: BONA
Sana, mapanood din ng mga kabataan ang closing film nito, ang Bona ng National Artist Nora Aunor. Ito ang isa pinakamagandang pelikulang nagawa niya.
Sana, mapanood ito ng mga Gen Z dahil dito sa Bona makikitang malayo ang pagkakaiba ng mga faney noong panahon ni Ate Guy kesa sa panahon ngayon ni Kathryn Bernardo.
Aalamin pa natin kung makakadalo si Ate Guy sa closing film ng Cinemalaya, dahil noong nakita ko siya sa nakaraang 40th PMPC Star Awards for Movies, parang nahihirapan na siyang kumilos.
May narinig kami kung ano ang karamdaman niya, pero wala namang sinasabi ang kampo niya. Kaya hindi naman namin nakukumpirma.
Pero bilang isang Noranian, nag-alala ako nang nakita ko ang ayos ni Ate Guy.
Sana, bumalik ang dati niyang lakas, dahil marami pa rin ang gustong mapanood siyang umaarte.
Sa totoo lang, nandiyan pa rin at hindi naiiwasan ang tapatang Nora Aunor at Vilma Santos.
Nakakatuwa pa rin silang subaybayan.
