Now that she is intent on pursuing an acting career in both the United States and the Philippines, Liza Soberano is more mindful about her expenses and savings.
The 25-year-old actress faces even higher expenses as she divides her time between the two countries.
Flight tickets alone cost thousands of pesos. Add to that many other costs, like booking accommodations, investing in acting and voice lessons in the U.S., and other travel expenses, the Careless Music talent has made saving for travel her priority.
"I’m saving up for my travel," she told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an interview last February 27, 2023, at the launch of her latest endorsement with Maya app.
She continued, "Because I constantly go back and forth to the U.S., and... I'm taking classes, and the classes are expensive, it’s really expensive, so, that’s one thing [I'm saving up for]."
SETTING PRIORITIES
Aware that there is a more cost-efficient and long-term solution, Liza is also setting aside funds to purchase a new home in Los Angeles, California.
This is going to serve as her home base as she works towards achieving her Hollywood goals.
She said, "I’m also saving up for... hopefully buying my own place in the States, in L.A, because I have a house in America, but it’s three hours away in L.A.
"And it’s not cost-efficient to constantly travel back and forth to L.A, and so, yeah I’m saving up [to find my own place there]."
Liza has placed all of these at the top of her priority checklist as she pursues her dream of making it big in Hollywood.
She said, "For me, my priority is to be able to invest more in myself, like in acting workshops that I take, I’m also taking vocal lessons...
"And also investing in getting to know more people, on networking so that I can build authentic relationships with people from behind the scenes in Hollywood, so that they can help me further on my craft, and gain awareness and knowledge."

LIZA SOBERANO'S TIPID TIPS
Liza is grateful that she learned to manage her finances effectively at a young age. She now puts these skills into practice whenever she is in the U.S.
The actress attributes her knowledge on proper financial management to her previous management at Star Magic and her former manager Ogie Diaz.
Liza follows the 50-25-25 rule for her savings, investments, and expenses.
At the time of the interview, the Kapamilya actress elaborated, "Growing up, I started working at 12. I was always with Star Magic and Tito Ogie, and they were actually very helpful in guiding me with my finances.
"And what I usually do is, I would save fifty percent of my earnings from anything and keep it in a what we could call mandatory account...
"And then the other 50 percent, 25 percent I would keep into a personal savings of mine first.
"If I wanted to buy either real estate or a car, or just personal things that I wanted to buy, I would get from that savings account.
"And the other 25 percent was used for my expenses, I’m also a breadwinner, so I provide for not just myself but for my family."
Asked for some travel "tipid" tips, she said, "I just really have to make tipid in other places, like, for example... renting Airbnb’s in L.A., or renting hotels is very expensive...
"So buti na lang when I went to L.A. with Careless, we all had a house, and we are all staying in together, and they bought that...
"But then, when I go there on my own, I had there my family and friends that I stay with.
"And I try to make tipid by not using UBER so much. If I can walk to the place, I will, or if I can scooter to the place, I will."
While Liza stresses the importance of saving money, she recognizes that it is reasonable to reward one's self occasionally.
"I actually [adopt] that mindset, but again, going back to what I said earlier, you need to know your priorities.
"And so, if there is something that you need, that’s what you should prioritize first before your wants.
"But I definitely like, I encourage also that 'deserve ko to' mindset because if you work so hard for something, it’s okay to reward yourself and to buy the things for your happiness."
