THE PROPERTY AND ITS SETTING

Boquete Island lies inside the lagoons of UNESCO-protected Muelle Bay in Puerto Galera, where Fridays occupies its own stretch along the shore.

The surrounding cove influences the shoreline and tempers how the area responds to changing weather conditions.

Hills enclose the water, which keeps wave activity more controlled compared to open coastlines.

As a UNESCO-protected zone, the area preserves a dynamic marine ecosystem and strikingly pristine waters.

Safety concerns tend to follow any coastal destination.

In this part of Puerto Galera, earthquakes remain rare, and strong typhoons pass through less often than in more exposed regions.

The natural formation of the cove reduces the impact of large waves, which keeps the beachfront stable during shifts in weather.

Access depends on sea travel. Guests reach the island by boat, while private chartered flights offer an alternative for those who prefer a faster route.

Ferry crossings follow a fixed timetable, though plans can unravel without notice when sea conditions turn and trips are suspended during adverse weather.

A private beachfront further separates the property from other resorts in the area.

Guests remain within the grounds without needing to pass through shared shorelines, which keeps the experience more contained throughout the stay.

Seasonality affects both pricing and occupancy.

Peak months begin in October and extend through May, when weather conditions support travel.

The period from June to September brings fewer bookings due to seasonal weather patterns that affect access to the area.

Guests receive the same layout regardless of category, and the decision comes down to whether they prefer a view of the water or a setting surrounded by greenery.

Across all room categories, guests are provided with a consistent set of amenities designed for comfort throughout their stay.

Each room is equipped with an air-conditioning unit, a smart television with cable channels, and an electronic safety deposit box.

The bathroom includes a toilet, a tub with shower, and complete bath essentials such as slippers, towels, and basic toiletries.

Visitors often travel in groups that include parents and children, and the property accommodates these groups through its layout and amenities.

Another segment includes professionals who seek time away from work.

These guests look for an environment that allows them to step away from daily responsibilities.

SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS

Sustainability is no longer optional in destinations like Puerto Galera, where natural beauty is the very thing that draws visitors in.

At Fridays Puerto Galera, these efforts are built into daily operations.

The resort follows strict environmental standards set by local government units and monitored under UNESCO guidelines.

This includes regular sewage treatment testing, proper waste disposal systems, and adherence to environmental regulations that are, by necessity, tightly enforced within a protected cove.

As part of their environmental efforts, any tree that is cut is replaced with three newly planted trees to support the area’s natural balance.

Recent efforts include introducing fruit-bearing trees, which is a deliberate step toward maintaining the island’s ecosystem.

Beyond environmental measures, the resort’s relationship with the local community is another telling aspect.

Around 95% of its workforce comes from Puerto Galera itself, and partnerships with indigenous Mangyan communities allow locally made products to be sold directly to guests.

FUTURE AMENITIES

If Fridays Puerto Galera feels like it’s still finding its rhythm, that’s because it is.

The resort has already weathered an uneven start.

It opened in 2018 operating solely on generator power—a costly and limiting set-up that forced intermittent closures depending on guest volume.

Then there was the pandemic, which shut the property down entirely in March 2020 and delayed its recovery until late 2021.

Come October 2023, a stable electricity connection powered by ORMECO (Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative, Inc.) allowed for full, continuous operations.

By most standards, it’s been a fragmented beginning. But the forward plan is clear. Expansion will continue upward, both literally and operationally.

According to Romeo A. Co, the resort's general manager, the long-term plan outlines a total of 84 units that will extend further up the hillside.

Future additions include luxury villas positioned on higher ground within the property.

Each villa will have its own plunge pool and a dedicated access path. Movement across the area will rely on golf carts that connect different sections of the resort.

The next phase also introduces spaces intended for both leisure and business use.

A conference room is part of the plan, along with a game room, a jungle gym, and dedicated play areas for children.

These additions will broaden what guests can experience within the property while preserving the identity and atmosphere the resort currently offers.

At present, it lives up to its name—Fridays—evoking a well-deserved break and a welcome escape from the real world.
