Nasorpresa raw si Monsour del Rosario nang magbitiw si Senator Ping Lacson bilang chairperson ng Partido ng Demokratikong Reporma noong March 24, 2022.
Si Lacson ang standard bearer ng partido para sa 2022 elections, pero nagbitiw siya sa puwesto nang malaman nitong nagdesisyon ang top officials ng partido na mag-endorso ng ibang presidential aspirant.
Si Vice President Leni Robredo ang napiling kampihan ng Partido Reporma para sa pagkapresidente, pero si Senator Vicente Sotto III pa rin ang vice presidential bet nito.
Si Monsour ay dating Makati First District Representative (2016-2019) at kumakandidato ngayong bilang senador sa ilalim ng Partido Reporma.
Sa eksklusibong panayam ng PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) noong Lunes, April 25, 2022, inilahad ni Monsour ang inisyal na reaksiyon niya sa isyu.
Lahad niya, "Actually, ang nangyari diyan, we were campaigning in Iloilo. Nag-iikot kami dun, papunta kami sa iba't ibang bayan.
"Nung araw na yun, nasa Gimban, Iloilo kami, papunta nga ako sa mayor ng ibang municipalities sa Iloilo.
"Tumigil yung kotse, bumaba yung ground operation officers ko, sabi sa akin, 'Boss, nabasa mo ito?'"
Tila ang tinutukoy ni Monsour ay ang naiulat na official statement ni Lacson na siya ay isa nang independent candidate.
"Nagulat ako kasi hindi ko na-expect na ito ang mangyayari. Nag-resign ang isang presidential aspirant sa Partido Reporma.
"Since Partido Reporma ako, sabi ko, 'Patay! Wala na kaming presidente. Ano ang gagawin namin ngayon?'
"Sabi ko, 'Tapusin natin ang ikot ngayong araw kasi maraming mayor ang naghihintay sa amin. Tatawagan ko ang mga officers ng Partido Reporma.'
"One hour later, tigil na naman ang apat naming sasakyan, ang sabi, 'Nabasa mo ito?' Nag-declare na pala ang Partido Reporma na ang ieendorso nila at ang presidente nila ay magiging si Vice President Leni Robredo."
Base sa salita ni Monsour, wala siyang ideya sa desisyon ng officers ng kanyang partido, pero positibo ang pagtanggap niya rito.
"Ako naman natuwa dahil Vice Leni, in my short encounters with her, is always very nice to me.
"In fact, niregaluhan ko iyan ng tactical ballpen. Sabi ko, 'Pag nagbiyahe ka, puwede niyang gamitin as self-defense.'
"I've always liked her, but I really don't have the chance to really get to know her. But I was following her work, her track record and all that.
"I was happy kasi magaan sa loob ko, magaan sa puso ko na ang suporta ng Partido Reporma ay lumipat kay Vice President Leni.
"Kaagad-agad nag-show ng support ako kasi kung sa iba iyan, baka hindi ko magustuhan, baka magdalawang-isip ako."
monsour's LOYALTY TO PARTIDO REPORMA
Nang tanungin kung ano ang reaksiyon niya sa mga batikos ng pag-iwan sa ere ng Partido Reporma kay Lacson, ipinunto ni Monsour na una siyang naging bahagi ng partido kaysa kay Lacson.
"Alam mo, hindi kasi nila alam na ako ang iniwan. I mean, iniisip nila ako ang nang-iwan.
"Bago pumasok si Senator Ping Lacson sa Partido Reporma, Partido Reporma na si Monsour del Rosario.
"Nung umalis si Senator Ping sa Reporma Partido, Reporma pa rin si Monsour del Rosario, iyan number one iyan.
"Hindi ako nang-iwan, ako ang iniwan. Iyan ang totoo, makikita niyo naman, e."
Nauna na ring naglabas ng pahayag noon si Monsour na nirerespeto niya ang desisyon ni Lacson, na inilarawan niyang "mabuting tao na may tapat na puso at taos-pusong hangarin na maglingkod sa sambayanang Pilipino."
Sabi pa ni Monsour sa PEP.ph: "Pangalawa, yung mga bashers naman, tinitingnan ko naman ang mga comments nila. Sa 100 comments sa Facebook ko, may tatlo, apat o lima na iba-bash o titirahin ako, pero ang 95 or 97 or 94, pinupuri ako, sinusuportahan ako.
"Kung ibe-base ko run ang mga critics, they are probably four percent of 100 percent. Maybe the most is six percent of 100 percent.
"For as long as the majority is in support of me and likes me, then I'm on the right track."
Hiningan din ng reaksiyon si Monsour sa kontrobersiyal na Easter Sunday presscon ng presidential aspirants na sina Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, Senator Panfilo Lacson, at former Defense Secretary Norberto Gonzales.
Naringgan noon si Moreno na umapela kay Robredo na umatras sa pagtakbo bilang presidente.
Nag-hands off doon si Lacson, na naghayag sa isang hiwalay na interview na ang punto ng Easter presscon ay pag-anunsiyo na walang plano ang sinuman sa kanila na umatras sa May 9, 2022 elections.
Sabi naman ni Monsour, "I would rather not comment na lang, that's their business already. Whatever those leaders want to do, what they are thinking, what they decide, I leave it that to them.
"Anyway, the fight goes on, the campaign goes on. We have a battle to win... I would rather not comment 'cause I know most of them. I would rather keep it to myself."
MONSOUR'S BID FOR SENATOR
Samantala, inisa-isa ni Monsour ang kanyang mga plataporma kung sakaling makapuwesto siya sa Magic 12 ng mga senador.
"I have four major platforms that I want to focus on if I will make it in the Magic 12.
"Number one is the health care hero's card law.
"Number two is inclusion of major institutions for children learning with disability and the goal for them is to get inclusion for regular school.
"Number three, the athletes, I want to take care of the athletes especially those who bring honor to the country na mabigyan sila ng pension.
"Maraming atleta ang malungkot ang ending dahil napabayaan na at wala nang tulong sa gobyerno.
"I want to take care of the youth. I want to focus on sports for the youth [and hone them to become future champions] because this bring character to their life.
"Ako, patapos na ang buhay ko, sila nag-uumpisa na, so I wannna make sure that these will help them.
"Number four is agriculture. A lot of people think I'm a city boy because I serve in Makati. Yes, I did. It's because I married a woman from Makati.
"But actually, I'm from Negros Occidental, Ilonggo ako. I have plenty of people I know that are farmers. Marami silang problema and I want to help them. I can be the voice of the people there."
Tulad ng paniniwala na mas marumi raw ang pulitika kaysa sa show business, sang-ayon dito si Monsour.
Saad niya, "Sobrang dumi, sobrang dumi. It takes a special gut for you to stay and fight for your country, to stay and fight for your people, to stay and serve your people the right way.
"It takes a special gut to go up against these kind of people that you are going to encounter in this world of politics, of public service.
"It's a different arena, very different. Nothing I think is worst than coming from this field and fighting it out, nothing at all.
"I love my country, I worry about the youth and I have to so something for them for my children, for my grandchildren. I have to try.
"Even if I lose and I don't make it, at least I fought, I tried."
