WOMEN'S HEALTH ISSUES ADVOCATE
Rina was best known for being a columnist for the broadsheet the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
She joined the paper in 1988 and was familiar to readers for her opinion column titled "At Large."
In August 2020, Rina shared with the public that her decades-long column was among those shut down by management as "part of the paper's 'cost-cutting' measures."
Rina graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in 1976.
She studied journalism at Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health in Baltimore.
Rina was also known for her book, Women at Large, which was a finalist in the Philippine National Book Awards in 1994.
She was an advocate for women's health issues, a topic she would discuss often in her column.
On March 20, 2013, Rina reported through her column that TV host-actress Kris Aquino had filed a temporary protection order (TPO) against former husband and basketball star James Yap.
Kris, according to Rina's report, accused James of “overstepping his boundaries and of attempting to seduce her while visiting her home, and of inflicting psychological harm on their son Bimby.”

James denied Kris's accusation, telling PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an exclusive interview, "May kanya-kanya na kaming buhay. Pero siyempre, nandiyan si Baby James, kaya may koneksyon pa kami. Maayos naman kami."
He added, “Ang kuwento talaga dun, bago nangyari yun lahat, okay kami, e."
