May mga nagsasabing may kakabit na sumpa ang korona ng Miss Universe Philippines dahil nakipaghiwalay sa kanilang mga boyfriend ang ilang mga nanalo ng naturang titulo matapos maging kinatawan ng ating bansa sa Miss Universe.
Nangyari ito kina Miss Universe 1999 1st runner-up Miriam Quiambao, Miss Universe 2012 1st runner-up Janine Tugonon, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo, at Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Beatrice Luigi Gomez.

Si Celeste Cortesi ang reigning Miss Universe Philippines, at hindi siya naniniwala sa obserbasyong "toxic" ang nabanggit na titulo.
Sa guesting ni Celeste sa Fast Talk with Boy Abunda nitong Huwebes ng hapon, February 23, 2023, kinontra ng beauty queen ang obserbasyong may hatid na sumpa ang Miss Universe Philippines crown and title.
Ang Filipino-British football player na si Mathew Custodio ang current boyfriend ni Celeste.
“Mathew was very supportive,” pahayag ni Celeste tungkol sa kasintahan niyang sumama sa kanya sa New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, nang maging kinatawan siya ng Pilipinas sa 71st Miss Universe noong January 14, 2023.
“I think what’s really beautiful about our relationship is the fact that we give each other the space and understanding.
“We really understand each other’s needs, and he knew that Miss Universe was very important to me.
“So he was really there, especially when I did not get in the Top 16. He was beside me the whole time, together with my mother, friends. Sobrang grateful ako.
“I feel very lucky coz sobrang supportive siya and, as I said, the fact that we give each other space and understanding in everything that we do, it’s really really important to me.
“He understands what I need, he understands what’s really important to me, and I don’t find it toxic at all. I feel like… I was just very lucky to find a guy that was as supportive as him.”
Nang itanong ni Boy Abunda kung nag-aaway sila ni Mathew, hindi nagpanggap si Celeste sa sagot nito.
Aniya, “Of course! Sometimes we fight, that’s normal, but we know our boundaries.”
“Stupid things” naman ang natatawang reaksiyon niya nang usisain ni Boy ang mga dahilan ng pag-aaway nila ni Mathew.
“Stupid things… Sometimes misunderstandings, but we always talk about it,” dagdag na pahayag ni Celeste.
Namataan at nakunan ng video habang nagtatalo sina Celeste at Mathew sa parking lot ng isang mall sa Taguig City noong February 13, 2023.
"Seloso" pero "konti lang" ang pagsasalarawan ni Celeste sa ugali ng kanyang boyfriend, pero nagtatagal umano ang kanilang relasyon dahil malaki ang pagpapahalaga nila sa komunikasyon.
Saad niya, “Seloso? Konti lang. He will say no but I know the truth.
"But it’s normal especially when you really care about someone.
"But as long as there are boundaries and we assure each other, we communicate, we would overcome everything.
“I think communication is very important in a relationship and that’s we have, and that’s why we lasted for so long.”
