DAY 4 RECAP: Manila International Film Festival (MIFF)

Last day ng pagpapalabas ng Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2023 entries sa MIFF kagabi, February 1, 2024.

Obvious hit on this day is GomBurZa, na nagkaroon ng extra screening nitong Pebrero 1, Huwebes ng hapon, at isa pa sa gabi which closed the MIFF.

Then, kagabi rin ang Talk Back premiere ng Family Of Two (A Mother and Son Story) with Alden Richards in attendance.

I was wondering why wala man lang direktor or producer na kasama si Alden, pero he managed naman.

One of the highlights, too, of MIFF 2024 ay ang dialogue ng mga taga-industriya natin, led by the FDCP, producers and actors with the MMDA sa Metro Manila Council and the Mayors.

Agenda: ZERO AMUSEMENT TAX for local films for three years; how to ease the process of doing business with government—gaya ng pagkakaroon ng standardized guidelines ang mga LGUs para sa permits to shoot and actor’s welfare on set, atbp.

SALAMAT sa lahat for coming together and working for a shared vision for our industry!!!!

Ipinasa nila noong January 25 ang resolution expressing the sincerest congratulations and commendation of the City Mayor, Honorable Ma. Josefina G. Belmonte; the City Vice Mayor, Honorable Gian G. Sotto; and the Honorable Members of the 22nd City Council.

Ang commendation ay para sa artists and production team ng 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) movie Rewind as the highest-grossing Filipino film.

NOOD KA MUNA!

Suportado ni MTRCB Chairperson Lala Sotto ang MMFF 2023.

Namataan ko siya sa premiere night ng Family Of Two (A Mother and Son Story) noong Disyembre 17 sa TriNoMa, Quezon City.

Noong Disyembre 25, Araw ng Pasko na first day ng MMFF, nasilayan muli siya sa TriNoMa para manood ng sine.

“Of course, we want the movie industry to thrive,” sabi ni Chair Lala Sotto sa courtesy call ng Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (Speed) noong Enero 30, Martes, sa tanggapan ng MTRCB sa Timog Avenue, Quezon City.

“Galing! Galing nung filmfest. I think pabalik na talaga, 'no?”

Napi-feel niyang sisigla muli ang local movie industry?

“Yes, napi-feel ko! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!” masayang paghalakhak ni Chair Lala.

Kung mahigpit ang Movie and Television Review and Classification Board sa TV shows, medyo lenient ang ahensiya sa mga pelikula.

R-13 ang Anyone But You.

R-16 Without Cuts ang I Am Not Big Bird ni Enrique Gil.

“Kasi we are really stricter with television programs. Because children can just watch easily with just a remote control,” pagmamatuwid ni Chair Lala.

“Sa movies, sa theatres, we have full control. We are able to tell cinemas not to accept children below a certain age group, that’s why.

“And then, each material, or every material, every movie submitted to us, whether it’s a publicity material… a television program that is complained about, is all subject to the interpretation and the judgment of the board.

“Yung sa movies kasi, may kanya-kanyang assigned board members who will be reviewing, and issuing a classification permit.”

Inirereklamo pa ba ang mga pelikulang ipinapalabas?

“So far, wala naman. Kasi nga, rated naman siya, e. Ang sagot diyan is, precisely why it was rated this particular rating,” tugon ni Chair Lala.

O ng 13-year old?”

“Kung may R-18, nag-a-adjust sila on their own para maging R-16 at maipalabas sa SM.
