Bago pa nag-artista si Alfred Vargas ay batbat na ng mga isyu at kontrobersiya ang Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS).
Noon pa naiintrigang nagkakabilihan dito ng awards.
May mga nagdududa tuloy na kesyo nagbayad si Alfred para maging best actor sa 72nd FAMAS Awards para sa pelikulang Pieta.

“Una, hindi po totoo yun,” malumanay na reaksyon ni Alfred sa thanksgiving celebration and fellowship noong Hunyo 6, 2024, Huwebes, sa Supersam restaurant sa Sct. Tobias St., Quezon City.
“Tapos, pangalawa, sa lahat po ng mga nakapanood ng Pieta, malalaman nila. So, manood sila ng Pieta.
“Mabigat itong trophy. Every inch, every gram nito, pinaghirapan natin. Pinaghirapan po natin kaya proud na proud po tayo.”
Katabla ni Alfred bilang best actor sa 72nd FAMAS si Piolo Pascual na bida sa horror movie na Mallari.
Ang apat pang nominadong best actor sa 72nd FAMAS ay sina Cedrick Juan (GomBurZa), Dingdong Dantes (Rewind), Alden Richards (Family of Two), at Ken Chan (Papa Mascot).
ALFRED ON ACTING WITH NORA, GINA, AND JACLYN
Co-stars ni Alfred sa pelikulang Pieta sina Nora Aunor, Gina Alajar, at Jaclyn Jose, sa direksiyon ni Adolf Alix Jr.
Na-pressure ba siya nang sabay-sabay niyang makaeksena ang multi-awarded na si Gina, ang National Artist na si Nora, at ang yumaong Cannes best actress na si Jaclyn?

“Sobra! And at the end of the day, feeling ko hindi naman ako magkaka-award kung hindi rin dahil sa kanilang tatlo,” pag-amin ni Alfred.
“Kasi, parang recipient lang ako ng galing nila. So, kumbaga nakisabay ako, or ano, nakita ko sila. Tapos I tried my best.
“And I owe it to the three of them. This award, I owe it to the three of them, and I want to thank them.
“Kay Ate Guy, Superstar, Nora Aunor tsaka kay Direk Gina Alajar. Tsaka kay Miss Jane, Miss Jaclyn Jose.”
Isasali pa ba ang Pieta sa mga international filmfest?
“Yes, the answer is yes. Pero our priority is yung mga nagde-demand na mga Noranians, ipalabas muna sa kanila,” saad ni Alfred.
“So, ang gusto talaga natin, ang unang makapanood nito, mga Pilipino. Afterwards, saka na yung ano.
“Actually I just came from a meeting now about Pieta, kung paano nga ang gagawin. So that door is always open para sa future screenings.
“And we will also screen, ha, abroad. We’re planning sa California, saka New York, Milan, saka Dubai.
“Lahat yan, this just year. Just because of insistence ng mga Noranians all over the world.”
Makakasama kaya ang 71-anyos na si Ate Guy sa international screenings ng Pieta?
“We’ll have to get medical clearance pero pag hindi, I’ll be there naman.”

Ikatlong nominasyon ito ni Alfred sa FAMAS, at first time niyang magwagi roon.
Before this ay may tatlo nang acting awards si Alfred para sa mga pelikulang Colorum (2009), Supremo (2012), at Tagpuan (2020).
Gaano ba kaimportante ang acting award para kay Alfred?
“Ano ito, additional happiness. Pero when we produced Pieta, yung first and foremost natin, priority palagi is to do a good film,” tugon ng actor-politician.
“Di ba, to produce a good film, make a good film. Secondary na lang yung box office.
“So every time we produce, kahit nung prinoduce natin yung Supremo, saka yung Tagpuan, saka yung Kaputol, lahat yun dapat may minimum quality na gusto natin magandang-maganda siya.
“So, for me, yun pala. Kasi I believe, film is forever. Film is forever, so puwede mong ipamana sa mga apo mo. “Yung mga pelikulang maipagmamalaki mo.”
Bilang producer ng Pieta, mababawi ba niya ang puhunan eventually sa special screenings nito? O bawing-bawi na dahil nanalo siyang best actor sa FAMAS?
“Itong pagkapanalo, wala itong kinalaman sa box-office,” sagot ni Alfred.
“Talagang additional happiness and meaning ito sa career ko. Pero in terms of being a producer, I produced several movies already.
“Ang kumita pa lang, Supremo pero not even in the box-office. Kumikita siya until now because of the schools.
“Kasi historical siya. Naitu-tour natin sa schools regularly, kaya rin ako nakakapag-produce.
“So, yun din ang reality we’re facing now. Na kahit mag-produce ka ng ilan, hindi ka sure kung ano ang kikita.
“So, dapat lang creative ka. So, ako, yung Pieta, I think naman, kikita sa dami ng Noranians.
“And yung mga Noranians, they support each other. Ang gusto nila, marami talaga. Bilib ako sa mga fans ni Ate Guy.”

GORGY RULA
Pagkatapos niyang makasama sina Nora Aunor, Gina Alajar, at Jaclyn Jose sa Pieta, sinu-sino pa ang gusto niyang makatrabaho sa mga susunod na pelikula?
“That’s the big question now,” sambit ni Alfred.
“After Nora, Jaclyn and Gina, what’s next? So ako siguro, ang next ko will be a family-centered drama, yung may maliliit na bata. Siguro ganun muna.
“Pero in terms of other actors that I would like to work with, marami pa. Marami pa.
“So for example, nung nasa backstage kami ni Piolo, nagbulungan kami. Sabi niya sa amin, ‘O, let’s do a film together.’
“Sabi ko, ‘Sige, game ako diyan.’ Kasi he’s also a producer, di ba? Tsaka magaling siyang producer. Di ba, andami na niyang box office hits as a producer?
“So, yung mga ganun, I would take every opportunity to work with great actors and actresses.”
Babalik pa ba siya sa paggawa ng sexy movies gaya ng Liberated (2003), Bridal Shower (2004), at Bikini Open (2005)?
Natawa si Alfred, “Hindi na. Ano na tayo, dad na tayo. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! OK na, na minsan nagdaan sa buhay ko, nagawa ko yun.
“And I did it with Direk Jeffrey Jeturian, at saka sina Boss Robbie Tan ng Seiko Films.”
Mapapanood si Alfred sa upcoming Kapuso afternoon drama series na Forever Young, kung saan bida si Euwenn Mikaell na nagwagi sa 72nd FAMAS awards bilang best child actor para sa pelikulang Firefly.
Nasa cast din ng Forever Young sina Nadine Samonte, Eula Valdes, Michael de Mesa, Rafael Rosell, Althea Ablan, at Princess Aliyah.
