ABS-CBN and Kim Atienza have officially parted ways today, October 1.
Also called Kuya Kim by the Kapamilya viewers, he did his last report for the weather news on TV Patrol's Friday night episode.
After the broadcast, ABS-CBN released a statement that officially announced Kuya Kim's departure from TV Patrol and the Kapamilya network.
The network thanked him for his "dedication, passion, and service to the Filipino people," from the shows that he did, including TV Patrol and the trivia show Matanglawin.
Kuya Kim replaced the late Ernie Baron in delivering the weather news on TV Patrol in 2004.
ABS-CBN also called Kuya Kim a "forever Kapamilya" in his statement.
ABS-CBN's statement reads:
“Today (October 1), Kim Atienza bid goodbye to the viewers of TV Patrol after many years of delivering the nightly weather news.
“No doubt, Kuya Kim has become an iconic name on Philippine television just like his predecessor in our primetime newscast, the late Ernie Baron. For 17 years, he shared knowledge and wonder to our viewers, as well as the many young Filipinos who grew up watching and learning from him in Matanglawin.
“We thank him for his dedication, passion, and most of all, service to the Filipino people. All the best, Kuya Kim! Forever Kapamilya.”
Aside from TV Patrol and Matanglawin, Kuya Kim also became part of It's Showtime.
On Tuesday, September 28, news broke that Kuya Kim is about to make his transfer to GMA-7.
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) reported that Kuya Kim will be part of a segment in GMA-7's flagship newscast, 24 Oras.
On September 29, Kuya Kim posted a photo on his social media accounts where he is seen hugging Gretchen Fullido and Noli de Castro, his colleagues in TV Patrol.
