Lucia Sisic, the reigning Miss Austria, has died at the age of 22.
On Monday, September 7, 2026, Mission Austria, the organization behind the Miss and Mister Austria competitions, confirmed Lucia’s sudden passing on its social media accounts.
“It is with great shock and deep sadness that we have learned of the passing of our Miss Austria 2024, Lucia Sisic.
“Lucia will be remembered as a wonderful young woman.
“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with her family, friends, and everyone who was close to her at this difficult time,” the organization said.
“Dear Lucia, you will always remain a part of our Miss Austria family. Rest in peace,” it added.

At this writing, the cause of Lucia’s death has not been publicly disclosed.
Although Lucia had a history of heart problems, there has been no confirmation that her congenital heart condition was connected to her death.

Lucia Underwent Seven Heart Procedures
According to Austrian media outlet Oe24, the 22-year-old beauty queen was born with a congenital heart valve defect and underwent seven heart procedures throughout her life, with her most recent surgery taking place in the winter of 2025.
Despite her health challenges, Lucia remained positive and used her story to inspire others.
In a 2024 interview with German television news broadcast Heute, she reflected on growing up with physical restrictions, saying, “My childhood was simply different, but it also made me strong.”

In an Instagram post in August 2024, Lucia also thanked the pediatric cardiology specialists who treated her, saying their efforts helped her overcome difficult moments and live a fulfilling life.
She wrote: "I find it difficult to find the right words to express my gratitude, because a simple thank you is far from enough.
"With best wishes for your future, I am saying goodbye and starting a new chapter in my life in adult cardiology.
"Your work is invaluable, and I hope that you can continue to help as many people as effectively as I have."
Who WAS Miss Austria Lucia Sisic?
Lucia Sisic rose through Austria’s pageant scene in 2024.
She was named Miss Vienna in January before winning the Miss Austria title later that year.
She remained the reigning Miss Austria at the time of her death, as no succeeding pageant was held.
Lucia was set to represent Austria at the upcoming Miss Universe 2026 pageant, which will be held in Puerto Rico in November.
No replacement has been appointed, meaning Austria may not participate in Miss Universe 2026.
