Personal na humingi ng paumanhin sa publiko si Senator Chiz Escudero matapos mahuli ang kanyang sasakyan na ilegal na dumaan sa EDSA bus lane.
Huwebes ng umaga, April 11, 2024, tinekitan ng mga awtoridad ang isang black SUV na may plakang “7” na dumaan sa EDSA bus lane.
Ngunit imbes na makipag-usap sa mga sumitang awtoridad ay mabilis itong tumakas.

Sa pamamagitan ng isang pahayag nitong Biyernes, April 12, inamin ni Chiz na sa pangalan niya nakaisyu ang nasabing SUV.
Pero giit niya, hindi siya ang nagmamaneho noong araw na masita ang kanyang sasakyan.
Aniya, ang sasakyan ay minamaneho ng driver ng isa sa kanyang kaanak.

Alam daw ng senador na mali ang ginawa ng driver kaya siya na raw mismo ang gumawa ng paraan para mapaharap ito sa MMDA (Metropolitan Manila Development Authority) para panagutin sa aniya’y pag-aabuso nito sa protocol plate.
Mababasa sa pahayag ni Escudero: “In the morning of 11 April 2024, a vehicle bearing protocol license plates issued to me was apprehended by the MMDA for improperly using the bus lane on Edsa.
"The use of the protocol plate was unauthorized, as the vehicle was being driven by the driver of a family member.
"The No. 7 protocol plate was also abused because vehicles with these plates are not allowed to use bus lanes.
"Following the incident, I have directed the driver to appear before the LTO to comply with the show-cause order issued to him and answer the charges he faces for the violation."

Dagdag pa ni Chiz, hindi niya ginagamit ang naturang sasakyan na may protocol plate number kaya ibabalik na lang daw niya ito sa LTO (Land Transportation Office).
Kalakip nito ang paghingi ng paumanhin sa publiko maging sa kanyang mga kabaro sa Senado.
Saad niya, “I do not personally use the protocol license plates issued to me, and forthwith the protocol plates involved in the incident will be surrendered to the LTO.”
"I apologize to the public and my colleagues in the Senate for this oversight. Moving forward, I commit to ensure that the protocol plates entrusted to me are used appropriately, consistent with the provisions of Executive Order No. 56, s. 2024."
Pinuri rin ni Chiz ang mga sumitang awtoridad sa pagiging aktibo ng mga ito sa pagpapatupad ng traffic rules and regulations.
Sabi niya, "I commend the authorities for their vigilance and reiterate my support for government efforts to ensure that traffic rules and regulations in Metro Manila are observed by all – regardless of rank, title, or position."
