Through in-depth interviews, on-site footage, and personal narration—including accounts from the Marawi siege and deployments in the West Philippine Sea—Matteo brings to light the courage, resilience, and patriotism of the country’s unsung heroes.

"As a reservist and a proud Filipino, I believe it’s important to honor the people who defend our nation every day.

"Every soldier has their own reason for signing up—some do it for their family, some for a better future, and some for the country.

"Their stories are all different, and honestly, very touching," the actor said during a virtual press conference on May 14, 2025.

Sharing his observation, he said, "It's very difficult to believe that these large Chinese vessels are slowly creeping up on our shores, and our men and women in uniform are there, establishing their presence.

"They need more exposure. Kawawa din sila they deserve more support."

Matteo also emphasized the urgent need for increased awareness and resources for the soldiers stationed there.

"When you see what supplies they have and what they’re doing out there, you realize—this needs to be given more importance."

He expressed hope that Philippine Defenders would help spark conversation about the West Philippine Sea.

“It’s different when you see it for yourself.

"If we don’t give it attention, if we don’t give it importance, they’ll keep coming closer.

"Makukuha nila sa atin ang para naman talaga sa atin,” he said.

The soldiers lost limbs in battle, yet found the strength to rise again and continue serving the country with honor.

"Seeing footage in the trailer from the Marawi siege is hair-raising for me, because I know some of these soldiers, I've heard their stories, I've spoken to them, I know their sacrifices.

"It's really mind-blowing, and yet sometimes we take that for granted."

In the end, the actor-reservist said the Philippine Defenders isn’t just about those in uniform.

For Matteo, defending the country extends far beyond the battlefield.

"It's our duty every single day to live our lives in defending and protecting our beautiful nation."
