Who do you think will be the next Darna?

Nadine Lustre

Nadine's name first appeared as one of the possible Darna actresses when fans noticed that her voice sounded like the narrator in the first teaser of Darna. The short teaser was shown in cinemas during the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival.

In an interview last January 2016 with PEP.ph, Nadine said that even though she wants to portray Darna, she is not sure if she is ready for it.

Now that Angel is set to do a movie with her reel-and-real life partner James Reid, could Darna be Nadine's first solo project? Your guess is as good as ours.

Liza Soberano

Fans of the 19-year-old actress are also eager to see her beauty soar as Darna. Known as one of the prettiest faces in showbiz, Darna the movie director Erik Matti said in an interview that Liza's Pan-Asian features are perfect for the superheroine's physical characteristics.

In fact, Liza's onscreen partner Enrique promised to give his full support if ever Liza would be chosen to play Darna. He said during a presscon last February 2016 that Liza has been dreaming of doing an action project.

For her part, Liza said that she would be honored to portray Darna, however, "Hindi ko po alam kung kaya ko yung costume." In fact, the actress hasn't done yet any kissing scene or even wore a sexy outfit in any of her previous projects. But who knows, she could have already changed her mind by now.

Jessy Mendiola

Jessy's name was one of the first to be considered when Angel first withdrew from the role in 2015. Definitely, her fans clamored to see Jessy do the Darna remake.

In February 2016, Jessy's fans were able to see her in Darna's costume during a production number in Banana Sundae. She said in her Instagram post, "Masaya nako kasi nabigyan ako ng pagkakataon masuot ang costume ni Darna. Kahit spoof lang."

As for Direk Erik, he said, "Si Jessy has the built, maputi lang siya masyado. Who knows, baka sa makeup we could make her a little more Filipino."

Months later, Jessy was hailed as the sexiest woman in the Philippines according to FHM Philippines's online poll. This prompted some people to say that she deserves to take on the coveted role.

Maja Salvador

A fan of Maja created a fan art poster where she is seen flying as Darna, with Simon "Onyok" Pineda as Ding, and Coco Martin as her leading man.

Of course, Maja can be considered as one of ABS-CBN's versatile actresses. She has experienced doing action scenes for her roles in Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin and FPJ's Ang Probinsyano. She also took part in fantasy shows like Pedro Penduko at mga Engkantao and Spirits.

In a presscon in 2015, Maja was once asked about her reaction if Darna will be offered to her. She answered, "Bakit ko po tatanggihan ang isang magandang proyekto?"

However, she added with a laugh, "Pero ayun lang, napakalaking responsibility noon. Parang hindi ako kakain buong buhay ko. Ikaw nga si Darna, bawal ka naman kumain ng masasarap!"

Kim Chiu

The very enthusiastic fans of Kim also expressed their intent to see the Chinita Princess fly as Darna through a fan art.

In reality, Kim already wore the costume once, during a performance in ASAP way back in 2013. She even got the loudest applause from the audience.

The actress has not commented about the possibility of playing Darna, but she is busy participating in duathlons to prepare for her TV series Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin. Could this also be a preparation for a bigger and physically challenging role like Darna?

Arci Munoz

With her boyish attitude matched by her bombshell figure, Arci could also pass as Darna. In fact, she had a superwoman pictorial for a publication in 2016.

Just like other actresses, Arci said in a previous interview with entertainment site Push that she wouldn't let the opportunity pass by if ever she would be offered to portray the coveted role.

As for Direk Erik, he said that he has yet to meet Arci personally before he can give any observation.

Pia Wurtzbach

Darna the movie can also be the perfect vehicle for Miss Universe 2015 Pia's acting comeback. After all, she has already experienced wearing a costume for a teleserye. Remember when she played a jellyfish in the 2012 TV series Aryana?

In fact, Direk Erik agreed that Pia's features make her suitable as Darna but he also pointed out, "Pero in the history of Darna, hindi talaga umuubra 'yong beauty queen.

"Kasi, kailangan mo talaga ng regular Pinay woman, parang ordinaryo lang na character, hindi siya kailangang stunning."

Yassi Pressman

Yassi's fans are rooting for the dancer-actress to portray the role of Darna.

Of course, their hopes were intensified after Yassi signed an exclusive contract with ABS-CBN last February.

But then, Yassi said that the Darna role has yet to be offered to her.

She said, "Sobrang laking honor? Even if I don't get to play the role, kung isa ako sa iniisip nila na possible, sobrang nakakatuwa.

"Just the fact na naiisip nila na dapat maging part ako or choice. Thankful ako, pero wala pa talaga."

Currently, Yassi is paired with Coco in FPJ's Ang Probinsyano. It was also announced that Coco is set to work with Angel for a movie. Could this also be a sign that they will be switching projects?

Julia Montes

Julia's fans are very eager to see their idol portray Darna. In fact, they even made an Instagram account devoted to their campaign for Julia to be chosen as Darna. (Check out their account: @juliamontesdarna).

Currently, the actress will be busy doing the upcoming teleserye Victims of Love, where she co-stars with Lorna Tolentino, who has also portrayed the iconic role in the past. Who knows, this could be a good omen that the stone will be passed on to the young Kapamilya star.

Jane Oineza

Of course, Darna the movie can also be a good vehicle to launch an actress to superstardom.

Jane's fans hope that their idol will get her biggest break through the Darna character.

After all, Jane has proven her potential as a dramatic performer, especially after her nomination as Best Actress at New York Festivals in 2013 for an MMK episode.

Sarah Lahbati

Sarah caught the attention of fans after wearing a Wonderwoman costume during a production number for ASAP. Actor Jake Cuenca, who was her partner in the dance number, said in his Instagram account that Sarah should play Darna if ever Angel won't push through with the role.

However, a report from Bandera published last December 1, 2016 said that Sarah is set to portray the role of Valentina in the movie, who is known as Darna's archnemesis.
