Ngayong Huwebes, July 28, 2022, ang ika-81 na kaarawan ng pumanaw na Queen of Philippine Movies na si Susan Roces.

Ngayong araw rin naganap ang inagurasyon ng bagong gusali ng Movie Workers Welfare Foundation Inc. (Mowelfund) sa 66 Ilang-Ilang Street at Rosario Drive, Quezon City.
Ayon sa veteran actress at Mowelfund Chairman na si Boot Anson Roa-Rodrigo, nagkataon lamang na kasabay ng birth anniversary ni Susan ang pagbabasbas at inagurasyon ng Mowelfund building na may anim na palapag at state-of-the-art production facilities.
Ang gusali ng Mowelfund ang nagsisilbing monumento ng mga pagsisikap ng founding chairman na si former Philippine President Joseph Estrada, Boots, Vice Chairman Gina Alajar, President Rez Cortez, Vice-President Julius Topacio, at ng trustees na sina Jim Baltazar at Direktor Edgardo "Boy" Vinarao.
Ang Mowelfund ay isang non-stock, non-profit social welfare, educational at industry development foundation na itinatag ni Estrada noong 1974 para makatulong sa mga maliliit na manggagawa ng Philippine motion picture industry.

Nagsimula ang konstruksiyon sa bagong Mowelfund building noong March 2019 sa pakikipagtulungan ng estranged husband ni Maggie Wilson na si Victor Consunji ng Victor Consunji Development Corporation (VCDC).
Bukod sa nabanggit na gusali, nagtayo ang VCDC ng 45 townhouses sa lupa na pag-aari ng Mowelfund na isa sa mga pinagkukunan nito ng pondo.
Lahad ni Boots, “In 2012, talagang kami po sa board ay medyo desperado na po.
“We already outwelcome our goodwill and our goodness, getting loans, seeking donations.
“Yung sa iba amin, nag-aabono na ng personal finances. Minsan po, yung aming benefits, medyo nahuhuli nang konti.
"But never, during that time, never po kaming nag-fail na mahuli ang suweldo ng mga tao namin at never po kaming nag-beg off sa benefits. Continuous po yun.”
Nagkaroon ng kalutasan ang mga pagsubok na pinagdaanan nila dahil sa payo ni Estrada.
Ayon kay Boots, “We sought the counsel of our chairman, former President Joseph Estrada in 2012.
"Naalala ko po yun, November 2012, humingi kami ng advice. 'Ano kaya ang puwede naming gawin na hindi na namin kayo uutangan?'
“Marami kaming utang sa kanya, sa mga ibinibigay niyang donasyon and, of course, the proceeds from the Metro Manila Film Festival, the proceeds from other institutional donors that we had.
"And he came up with this one word, sustainability.
“Sabi niya, 'Yun ang isipin ninyo, kung paano kayo magiging sustainable. Seek sustainable development kasi hindi puwedeng paghiwalayin ang development. You have to target that through the years but make sure that your development is sustainable.'
“Our backs are practically against the wall. That time, restless ang board. Naisip namin, maybe it is time that we look to our resources and maximize our resources.
“So, hence, we conducted studies on what we could do with the area, the lot, that was owned by Mowelfund.
"It was bought by our founding chairman and the other founders like Susan Roces, Espiridion Laxa, Manny de Leon, Fernando Poe Jr., and Dolphy.
“Yun po ang naging seed ng aming due diligence on how we could attain sustainable development.”
Pinasinayaan din ngayong Huwebes ng hapon ang 54-seat theatre na ipinangalan kay Conrado “Dengcar” Baltazar, ang pumanaw, nirerespeto, at multi-awarded na director of photography.
Matatagpuan sa Mowelfund ang mga memorabilia nina Joseph Estrada at Nora Aunor tulad ng mga acting award na natanggap nila.
Laman ng archives ng Mowelfund ang mga libro tungkol sa mga pelikula, mga lumang kopya ng script, at publicity clippings ng mga artista ng iba’t ibang henerasyon.
Agaw-pansin sa isang palapag ng Mowelfund ang bust nina Estrada, King of Comedy Dolphy, at King of Philippine Movies Fernando Poe Jr. na itinuturing na mga alamat ng pelikulang Pilipino dahil sa kanilang mga hindi matatawarang kontribusyon.
