Isang pampublikong pagdinig ang magaganap sa Senado bukas, February 23, 2023.
Ang kontrobersiyal na planong pagsaklaw at pagpapalawak sa kapangyarihan ng Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) sa mga pelikula at series na ipinalalabas sa mga streaming platform ang ilan sa mga pag-uusapan sa public hearing na magaganap bukas.
Isa itong sensitibo at kontrobersiyal na usapin dahil marami ang tutol sa censorship ng mga panoorin sa streaming platforms.
Nakasaad sa sulat na natanggap ng mga resource person ang mga panukalang batas sa Senado na nais baguhin at may layuning palawigin ang kapangyarihan ng MTRCB.
Ito ang mga sumusunod na panukala:
1.Senate Bill No. 965 — An Act Enhancing the Capabilities, Mandate, and Organizational Structure of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), amending for the purpose Presidential Decree 1986 (by Senator Grace Poe).
2. Senate Bill No.1063 — An Act Expanding the Powers and Functions of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board for the regulation of video games and outdoor media, amending for the purpose Presidential Decree No.1986, otherwise known as creating the movie and television review and classification board (by Senator Win Gatchalian).
3. Senate Bill No.1178 — An Act Reforming the Mandate of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board to Include Streaming Services, amending for the purpose Presidential Decree No.1986, otherwise known as Creating The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board, and for other purposes (by Senator Francis Tolentino).
Ang public hearing ay pangungunahan ni Senator Robinhood Padilla, ang chairman ng Committee on Public Information and Mass Media, kasama ang Committee on Ways and Means; Games and Amusement; and Finance.
