Janice de Belen, as a parent, speaks with the quiet wisdom of a mother who has learned to let her children grow without truly letting them go.
In a YouTube vlog uploaded by Julius Babao on April 23, 2026, the 57-year-old actress opened up about her approach to her children’s relationships, including daughter Kaila Estrada’s much-talked-about love life.
For Janice, the role of a parent is no longer about control, but trust.
“Wala naman akong magagawa sa relationship na kahit sino sa mga anak ko… I will have to trust them, love them, and get along with them,” she said.
Rather than shielding her children from heartbreak, Janice believes in equipping them to face it.
“I don’t coddle my children… Because again, I was never coddled when I was a child. I needed to face all my hurts on my own. Face all responsibilities alone. Dapat kayo din.”
It’s a philosophy shaped not just by experience, but by acceptance that children eventually grow into lives of their own.
For Kaila, her youngest daughter, the advice is simple, almost understated in its weight: “She is 30 years old. Ano pa bang sasabihin ko sa kanya? Basta guard your heart.”

“Tatatawanan nila ako. I miss my kids kasi. I’m a hovering parent nung lumalaki sila. Lagi kaming nanonood ng sine, nanonood ng TV, magkakasama, kumakain sa labas na magkakasama.
“Manonood kami ng sine and then, siyempre, when they’re growing up, hindi na ikaw yung gusto nilang kasama manood ng sine kundi friends, may boyfriend, di ba?”
Janice described the gradual shift that happens as children grow older.
“So I remember saying this: give your children quality love in quantities. Kasi when they’re young, ikaw lang ang mundo nila. Ikaw lang ang mahal nila. Habang tumatanda sila, pababa ka nang pababa sa listahan ng priorities. Maaalala ka lang nila kapag may kailangan sila sa iyo.”
It’s a reality she has come to terms with, even if it doesn’t make it any less emotional.
“Tinanggap ko yun… tinanggap ko na ganun talaga kasi yun din siguro feeling ng nanay ko sa akin. Tinanggap ko yun. That’s why, give them quality love in quantities.”
