Matamang lahad ni Gigo sa PEP.ph: "The silver lining throughout all this experience... Biruin mo, right before she passed, I never thought that she would actually go out in public and say na 'bakla ang anak ko.'

"She went out in the media. Actually, naiyak ako nun, e. To hear her say [that]. Hindi namin plinano yun.

"I just told her, 'Ako na magsasalita, Ma, pabayaan mo lang ko. Let me say the story.'

"But she wanted to say it out loud."

PAST DIFFERENCES WITH MOM CLAIRE

"Kasi my mom and I... I've been very public about how we had a rocky relationship.

"It wasn't perfect because of my sexuality. That was always an issue kasi for her."

"She's a born-again Christian and her beliefs didn't allow it. That was part of her beliefs," sabi muna ni Gigo.

Dagdag niya: "To be perfectly blunt and straightforward about it, the reason why she didn't want me to be gay was baka feeling niya maubos lang yung pera ko sa lalaki. Iyan ang mga reasoning niya.

"Worried siya na baka pag nawala na siya, lulustayin ko lang yung pera sa guys and everything—which I don't think will ever happen. It's not like me to do that."

"Of course, throughout the years, we had conversations like that. Fights, actually. How, you know, nanay ko siya... Normal naman yun. Ganun talaga kami.

"But at the end of the day, we still loved each other. We never left each other's side.

"We kept our personal stuff between us lang. I guess, that's the way to say it."

Lahad pa ni Gigo: "A couple of years ago, we already made peace with each other. Basta sabi niya, I won't announce it na lang to the public.

"Kaya I felt bad when I told her, 'Ma, I need to come out to the public and tell the media ang totoo. I need to save people's lives,' sabi ko."

ON CLAIRE ACCEPTING HIM AND HIS GAY FRIENDS

"And then, willing naman siya.

We didn't have discussions...

"Part of me felt na, parang, I guess in-accept niya right then and there. She didn't care about her beliefs anymore.

"She just cared na she loved me and she wanted to protect me as her son.

"Yun ang simula na nakita ko na, at the end of the day, despite our differences in our point of view, she still chose to love me.

"Parang, she didn't second guess... At the end of it all, she still fought for me."

"Seeing her fight alongside me and accepting my new friends who were also gay like me, it was very heartwarming to see her there willingly fighting for them as well," madamdaming sabi ni Gigo.

We had an interview with Tito Boy [Abunda] where they were talking about my mom.

"They have stories about my mom. I didn't know na nangyari pala yun. Na-realize ko, para kaming naging magkakapatid.

"My mom was taking care of them as their own kids. Na-appreciate ko talaga yun."

JUNKED RAPE WITH HOMICIDE COMPLAINT

Sabi ni Gigo, "Honestly, it was more of, like, we literally said, 'Finally.'

"We knew the truth. Wala naman talagang nangyari. I was there to help.

"It just felt na parang justice could actually happen. It felt good at that point.

"We worked so hard to defend ourselves. It's easy to be intimidated with the entire situation and how big the whole issue got.

"Nakakatakot all the bashing, all the attacks on us. It was easy to just falter and just give up.

"But we chose to fight and stand by the truth and fight for ourselves."

Paliwanag pa niya sa PEP.ph: "Unfortunately, I can't say that it was good of a victory as I expected.

"Well, for one thing, the damage was done. I admit this experience somehow partially traumatized me.

"And also, my mom wasn't there. I couldn't share this moment with her. Siya pa naman yung lumaban for me.

"Naiyak talaga ako when I got the decision...

Unfortunately, I didn't get to."

FINDING PURPOSE IN DIFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES

Balik-tanaw ni Gigo: "Actually, it was the car crash. That's where it started... I was asleep in the passenger seat and my driver fell asleep on the wheel. We crashed.

"I was at the point of impact. Fortunately, I was the only one not injured. My driver pala was anemic, so when I woke up, my driver fell unconscious.

"And luckily, I was able to get someone to do CPR while I was stuck on my seat. I was able to save his life, kumbaga. I got to call the ambulance and rush him to the hospital right away."

"I always thought that there was a reason why I was allowed to be there in that party that night.

"That night kasi, I was even praying, 'Lord, if I was meant to go to this party, book me a Grab right away. I was already booking a car. I was booking kasi a Grab. Within two minutes, I already had a car right outside my village.

"So, okay, I was supposed to go there. That's what I was thinking that morning when we found Christine."

Sabi raw niya sa sarili, "Okay, you've been here. You know what to do. Automatic—CPR, call the abulance."

Pahayag ni Gigo: "This was something we never expected that would happen to us. We were considering it as the worst thing...

"When we got here, we realized you just have to strong. When you don't have any choice, you just have to be strong.

"We'll be a bit scared, but we need to move on. This experience made us stronger.

"Now, we can look back and say, 'Whatever comes our way, we've been through worse. We made it through.'"
