Miss Universe 2022 Crowns New Winner

Miss Universe has just crowned its new winner but pageant fans are already looking forward to the next edition which will be held later this year.

On Saturday night, January 14, 2023 (January 15, PH time), the Miss Universe Organization officially revealed its destination country for its 72nd edition — the Central American country El Salvador.

The announcement was made by the country's President Nayib Bukele in a recorded video played during the grand coronation night of Miss Universe 2022 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

In the video, Bukele said, "El Salvador is a country that is full of beauty.

"We have the best surfing beaches in the world, magnificent volcanoes, exquisite coffee and we have now become the safest country in Latin America.

"I would like to thank the Miss Universe Organisation for joining us in this historic process.

"El Salvador is changing and we want you to come and see it for yourselves."

This will be the second time El Salvador will be hosting the pageant. Their last was in 1975 when Anne Marie Pohtamo of Finland won the title.

The Philippines is expected to compete in the 72nd edition of the pageant along with around 80 other delegates from all over the world.

R'Bonney Noya Gabriel of the United States is the latest Miss Universe titleholder succeeding Harnaaz Sandhu of India.

The Filipino-American fashion designer is also the first to wear the new Miss Universe crown called "Force for Good." It was made by Mouawad in partnership with the Miss Universe Organization under its new owner, Thai billionaire Anne Jakrajutatip.

Celeste Cortesi of the Philippines bowed out early in the competition after failing to secure a top 16 slot.
