(From left) Movie queen Gloria Romero, veteran actress and MOWELFUND head Boots Anson Roa-Rodrigo, and late Cannes-winning actress Jaclyn Jose are among this year's recipients of the Parangal ng Sining recognition from the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).

"Pero we discussed nga, 'Let’s veer it away from just performers and production. Let’s talk about people who are behind the scenes and had major contributions.'"

Pagpapatuloy ni Direk Joey, “Si Nick Tiongson, for his cultural research specifically on film, which is going to be a thrust of FDCP.

"Yan ang isang ipinaglalaban ko na magbibigay rin eventually ng funding for cultural research on film kapag may ginagawang dissertation o kaya mga thesis involving Filipino movies, we can help fund you sa mga pangangailangan.

“Si Doy del Mundo and Bing Lao, who are teachers and at the same time major screenwriters.

“And then, let’s give tribute to people who are working hard to preserve films kasi nauubos, e. Ang daming pelikula na nagiging torotot.

“Sabi namin, Sagip Pelikula and SOFIA. Wala naman silang kinikita diyan, e, but they’re protecting films part of cultural history.

Saad pa niya, “The decision to take Tita Boots is Tito Boots is one of the most underhonored, underrated people in the industry, because of the work she has done for MOWELFUND [Movie Workers Welfare Foundation].

“She’s the mother of MOWELFUND.

“And of course, the ultimate movie queen, Gloria Romero. There’s no question about Gloria Romero. She’s 90 years old.

"Although she’s been honored before by FDCP, there’s never enough honor for a woman who represents the Philippine cinema.

“And then, finally, si Teddy Co was part of our Board of Trustees. He has done books and done research, done archiving of Filipino movies.

“And of course, the sad turn of events for Jaclyn Jose. Kahit ano pa ang sabihin, Jaclyn Jose is more than a meme.

“She is the only Filipina actress to bag a major international award [69th Cannes Film Festival, May 2016]. Let that be based on record.
