The phrase “clean money girls” exploded across Philippine showbiz in July.
What began as a conversation between content creators pulled in Heart Evangelista after her long-time personal assistant (PA), Resty Rosell, claimed that the term was a veiled jab at her employer.
Soon, a celebrity used the phrase twice, sparking more discussions on Reddit, X, and comment sections.
The phrase “clean money girls” has since become a trending topic, bringing to the surface a quietly brewing rivalry that drew in friendships and connections.
Here’s how it unfolded.

JULY 11, 2026: WHO drops the “clean money” phrase?
In July, Mimiyuuuh and Esnyr Ranollo talked about how their success as content creators has given them the freedom to indulge in more expensive food.
While eating a king crab, Mimiyuuuh joked: "Alam mo, pangarap ko talaga, na sana naging anak na lang ako ni Small Laude."
Esnyr threw in, "Ako rin. Pangarap kong maging nepo baby."
Mimiyuuuh added, "Pero ayoko yung mga galing sa politicians. Gusto ko nepo baby na galing sa mga businesses."
Esnyr then used the phrase that would later become controversial: "Nepo baby na clean money."
The conversation then shifted to celebrities they admire, particularly Anne Curtis, whom Mimiyuuuh had the chance to work with in April during The Devil Wears Prada 2’s press tour in Japan.
The content creator praised the Viva superstar for being down-to-earth: “We only love Anne in this household, kasi siya talaga ang clean-money girl.”
JULY 13-15, 2026: Heart Evangelista’s PA enters the chat
Resty, Heart's PA, interpreted the remarks differently.
She publicly confronted Mimiyuuuh on Instagram, questioning the basis for calling anyone’s money “clean.”
Her comment read: “Kahit sabihin pa natin na hindi para kay Heart iyan, mali pa rin.”
She also asked what the basis was for determining whether someone’s money was “clean” and questioned whether they needed to present financial statements to prove it.
"@mimiyuuuh, hindi mo na need magpasikat mi, sikat kana.
"Sayang lang mayroon ka ng paganyan ngayon. Kahit sabihin pa natin na hindi para kay Heart yan, mali pa rin. Ano ba basehan natin sa clean money?
"Kailangan ba mi, manampal kami ng financial statement para masabing clean money?
"At galing pa talaga sa kanya? Eee ang galing mag-shade-shade, @mimiyuuuh. Saan mo natutunan yan?
"Ingat, baka bigla ka tapikin."
Her comments were later deleted, but not before netizens took screenshots and shared them widely on social media.

The remarks took on added significance given Heart and Mimiyuuuh’s history, which dates back to the early days of Mimiyuuuh’s career.
For background, the content creator previously worked as an intern of Heart's erstwhile friend, designer Mark Bumgarner.
In August 2019, six months after Mimiyuuuh launched her YouTube channel, she collaborated with Heart, who welcomed the influencer into her home and showed her around her closet.
Mimiyuuuh also credited Heart and Resty for helping her get connected to Aivee.
According to an older account cited by PEP on July 15, 2026, Mimiyuuuh regarded the chance to be an Aivee “leaguer” as a major opportunity because she was only starting out at that time.
Resty subsequently told PEP that Heart had also helped Mimiyuuuh gain visibility and access to brands.
Around the same period, Heart's comment on an Instagram post read: “Viral stars will only light the sky for a split second.”

Heart did not identify Mimiyuuuh and Esnyr.
But because the comment came immediately after the controversy, some netizens interpreted it as a response to the two creators.

July 15, 2026: Heart and Mimiyuuuh reportedly unfollow each other
After Resty's comments, Heart and Mimiyuuuh allegedly unfollowed each other on Instagram.
PEP, Inquirer.net, Abante, and LionhearTV took notice of this development.
JULY 16, 2026: It’s Showtime hosts use the “clean money” phrase
The controversy spilled beyond the internet and onto live TV when Vice Ganda joked about wanting to visit Sobrino de Botín in Spain and pay for the meal with “clean money.”
In the same episode, Kim Chiu followed with the phrase “hard-earned clean money.”
Amy Perez also participated in the exchange.
The clip immediately circulated online, with many viewers connecting it to the Mimiyuuuh controversy.
But Vice, Kim and Amy did not mention Heart.

JULY 17, 2026: Raymond Gutierrez enters the “Clean Money” conversation
Shortly after, Bilyonaryo News Channel featured Raymond Gutierrez discussing a Louis Pisano article published on July 13, 2026.
He reported: “Na-mention ang Pinay sa article ni Louis Pisano titled ‘Can You Be Woke At Couture?—an existential crisis amongst the world’s richest women.’
Raymond also shared Pisano’s revelation that Heart had inspired his series on TikTok.

The report triggered another round of online discussion because Mond has been working in media and covering fashion-related stories involving Heart.
This was how the 42-year-old host entered the current “clean money” ecosystem, even though his involvement was separate from the Mimiyuuuh incident.
August 1, 2026: Raymond uses “clean money” himself
Raymond posted a photograph with friends and captioned it: “What a joy to have REAL friends! #CleanMoneyGirls”

The phrase caught the attention of Heart-related Reddit communities because it came only weeks after Mimiyuuuh's conversation with Esnyr.
The timing led some users to interpret Raymond’s post as throwing shade at Heart.
Others argued that he could simply have been talking about his friends.
Again, there was no explicit Heart namedrop.
August 13, 2026: The old Gutierrez family history gets dragged back out
GMA subsequently resurfaced archival footage connected to the 1994 Manila Film Festival scandal, which became part of the online discourse surrounding Raymond and the Gutierrez family.
Reddit users noted that it came on the heels of Raymond’s “clean money” hashtag.
The fact that GMA revisited an old scandal involving members of the Gutierrez family is factual.
The conclusion that this somehow proves Raymond’s personal finances are “unclean” is not.
Redditors, meanwhile, attempted to conduct a multinational forensic audit of everyone’s relatives.

August 16, 2026: Heart gives the biggest apparent response yet
Heart appeared on GMA’s Your Honor podcast hosted by Chariz Solomon and Buboy Villar.
During the show’s blind-item portion, she discussed influencers whom she described as “plastic” and “mayabang.”
She recalled an incident, in which people mocked her for wearing a dress that was on sale.
According to Heart, someone said: “Oh, I love your dress. It’s on sale, right?”
Heart questioned why buying something on sale should be embarrassing.
She also advised influencers not to become arrogant simply because they had become successful or gone viral.
Her broader message was that popularity is temporary, people should remember where they came from, and they should treat everyone with respect.
Heart did not name Mimiyuuuh or Raymond.

The timing, however, caused online users to connect the comments to the people who coined the "clean-money girl" phrase.
August 17–18, 2026: Heart’s “entitled influencer” remarks become another blind item
Heart’s remarks were subsequently reported as criticism of influencers who act entitled and arrogant.
One entertainment report noted that some netizens thought the blind item referred to Mimiyuuuh because of the earlier “clean money” controversy.
But another strand of speculation began linking the remarks to Raymond Gutierrez, particularly because of Heart’s description of someone involved in the fashion industry.

The “fashion friend” story
Heart’s Your Honor interview included a story about someone she had apparently helped gain access to the fashion world.

The person allegedly began as someone who admired fashion and wanted to be around prominent personalities.
Heart said she helped this person gain access, but after the person became connected with other fashion figures, the person allegedly stopped acknowledging her.
Heart did not identify the person.

August 18–23, 2026: Raymond posts about flood control, fashion and “what’s on sale”
Raymond then posted a statement amid flooding and public anger over the country’s flood-control scandal.
“While others are so focused on fashion and what’s on sale or not, this is the state of our country. We deserve better from our public servants & their families,” he wrote.
He did not name Heart.

Nonetheless, netizens were quick to link the post to Heart, who had just spoken publicly about being mocked for wearing something “on sale.”
Some observers interpreted Raymond’s post as a response to Heart.
This interpretation gained traction because Heart’s husband, Chiz Escudero, had been among the politicians publicly implicated in allegations surrounding flood-control projects—allegations he has denied.

August 20, 2026: Raymond denies being Heart’s “plus-one”
Another separate issue intensified the alleged Heart–Raymond gap.
Raymond pushed back against claims that he had been at a 2024 Paris fashion event merely because Heart brought him as her plus-one.
He told Abante that he had been personally invited by the brand, had been dressed by the brand, and, had attended as an invited guest.
“I don’t need anyone," he said.
August 23, 2026: The “silent war” becomes mainstream news
By August 23, multiple outlets were reporting renewed speculation about a Heart–Raymond gap.
ABS-CBN reported on Raymond’s cryptic warning about people who allegedly spread lies to hide their own truths.
Another report quoted his post: “PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THOSE WHO SPREAD LIES; THEY’RE THE ONES TRYING HARDEST TO HIDE THEIR OWN TRUTHS.”

The report also connected it to his earlier post about flood-control/fashion statement: “What a joy to have REAL friends. #CleanMoneyGirls”
Throughout these developments, neither Raymond nor Heart confirmed that they were at odds with each other.
The unfollowing
By late August, reports and social-media users were also noting that Heart and Raymond were no longer following each other on Instagram.
That revived their 2011 history, with several outlets pointing out that the two had once been friends before their respective families became embroiled in a management dispute.
Heart was managed by Raymond’s mother, Annabelle Rama, from 2008 to 2010. When her contract expired in 2011, Heart chose not to renew it, which reportedly led to a falling-out between the two.
Interestingly, Abante reported on August 20 that there was no personal feud between Heart and Raymond, despite the online speculation.
Raymond’s own explanation, according to the report, focused on correcting the claim that Heart secured his fashion access.

CONTEXT
The #CleanMoneyGirls issue cannot be fully understood without considering the controversy surrounding Heart’s husband, Chiz Escudero, and the flood-control scandal.
In August 2025, then-Senate President Chiz Escudero denied any involvement in flood-control projects while acknowledging that contractor Lawrence Lubiano of Centerways Construction had contributed to his 2022 campaign.
In September, former DPWH Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo gave testimony that allegedly linked Escudero, among others, to funds from anomalous flood-control projects.
Escudero denied the allegations and described them as baseless.
In May 2026, GMA News reported that the Ombudsman’s Field Investigation Office had recommended plunder, graft, and indirect bribery charges against Escudero, alleging that he indirectly received PHP306 million and PHP280 million from various flood-control projects.
The alleged kickbacks were reportedly collected by businessman Maynard Ngu, whom the complaint described as Escudero’s friend, campaign contributor, and alleged bagman.
These were allegations contained in the complaint and do not constitute a judicial finding of guilt.
The political controversy has since become part of online discussions surrounding Heart, with some using her lavish lifestyle, marriage to Escudero, and business associations as fodder for questions about the source of her wealth.
