House resumes regular session; ABS-CBN franchise renewal bills still not calendared

The House of Representatives still has 22 session days left until their regular session break slated on March 14, 2020. ABS-CBN franchise to broadcast will end on March 30, 2020 and might cease operations if the network cannot secure another legislative franchise to broadcast for the next 25 years.

Ang paggawa ng tatlong bagong departamento ang unang naikalendaryo sa pagsisimula ng regular session ng Kongreso ngayong araw, January 20.

Ayon sa ulat ng Balitaan ng CNN Philippines kaninang tanghali, sinabi ni House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano na mamadaliin ng Kongreso ang pagpasa sa mga panukalang batas para sa pagbuo ng Department of Disaster Resilience, Department of Water Resources, at Department of Overseas Filipino Workers.

Nakasalang na raw sa plenaryo ang panukalang may kaugnayan sa pagtatag ng Department of Overseas Filipino Workers, at nakabinbin naman sa komite ang tungkol sa pagbuo ng dalawang bagong departamento.

Samantala, hindi pa rin naikakalendaryo ng House Committee on Legislative Franchises ang tungkol sa franchise renewal ng ABS-CBN.

May humigit-kumulang 12 panukalang batas ang nakabinbin pa rin sa nasabing komite.

Nauna nang sinabi ni Speaker Cayetano na magkakaroon ng "fair" na pagtalakay ang Kongreso sa franchise renewal bills ng ABS-CBN.

May panahon pa naman daw upang matalakay ito.

Mayroon na lamang nalalabing 22 session days ang Kongreso at Senado bago sila muling mag-recess sa March 14.

Kaugnay nito, maraming artista ng Kapamilya network ang nanawagan sa kanilang followers na pumirma sa online petition ng National Union of Journalist of the Philippines (NUJP) upang hikayatin ang Kongreso na madaliin ang pagtatalakay sa pending bills na may kaugnayan sa prangkisa ng ABS-CBN.

Kabilang sa kanila sina Lea Salonga, Anne Curtis, at Vice Ganda.
