"I am 25 years old now and I think people forget that I’ve been working for 13 years now, since I was 12 years old. I’ve been in six feature films, over 500 episodes of teleseryes and have only really dabbled into three main genres—romance, comedy, and drama.
"Since I was 16, I had only really worked side by side with one main co-star, with the same production company, rotating around the same three directors. During all those years, I was never really asked for my input, my thoughts, my ideas.
"I know I’ve been getting some backlash and I obviously know that it would be much easier to just to stick to what has been working for me, to stay forever the same.
"I know and I understand it’s unfair to all the Liza Soberano fans, all the LizQuen [love team with Enrique Gil] fans, but I hope you understand that by doing so, by giving in to the pressure of doing what everybody else wants for me, I’m being unfair to myself, Hope Soberano.
"I’ve sacrificed my childhood, I’ve sacrificed my freedom, and I’ve sacrificed my happiness to present Liza Soberano to the world.
"And I think I’ve earned the right to finally be me, to finally be able to do things for me, as Hope Soberano.
"I’ve embarked on a fresh new chapter and I’m finally taking control of my life, pursuing dreams that I’ve always had a hold off on.
"It’s exciting, it’s terrifying, it’s anxiety-filled, and it’s confusing.
“But what I know for sure is that for the first time, I’m finally living my life for me.”
mixed reactions
ON BEING JUST A PRETTY FACE

“When people say I'm pretty, I always wonder if I'm pretty lang. I don't like that feeling."
She got real about the downside of being pretty in her 2017 interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal):
“Sometimes it gets to a point na it starts hurting me kasi yun na lang ang pinapansin. And I try so hard to prove that I’m not just that, but they still can’t see pass that.
"And like, there are times kunwari nagpe-perform and nagda-dance, I know I’m not the best dancer out there, but then when I feel down about how I did, you know, how I did during a prod, lalapit sila sa akin, sasabihin, ‘Okay lang iyan, maganda ka naman.'”
ON BLACKFACE ISSUE
Narito ang kanyang apology post (published as is):
“Before everything gets out of hand I would like to apologize for those affected by my comments about the whole 'black face' issue.
"It wasn’t of my intention to mock anyone of any culture or ethnicity.
“I understand that this is a sensitive topic and that I should’ve kept my mouth shut.
"For now on I will try to be more educated about matters like this to make sure I don’t make careless mistakes like this again in the future.
“Cultural appropriation is an issue that is deep rooted in society which I am still educating myself on.
"I’ve read your comments and tweets and I honestly do understand where this backlash has come from.”
on being with enrique gil
Remember when Liza accidentally admitted her relationship with Enrique Gil?
“I can’t believe people still get mad for me saying he's my best friend? Is that a bad thing? Calling someone your best friend doesn't necessarily mean you are friend-zoning them. Things can develop, right?”
on government's pandemic response
“My heart bleeds for all the people who cannot afford not to go out and work.
“They literally have to choose between dying of starvation or dying of covid.
“Is our country really this poor to no be able to provide stimulus??
“America has received 2 rounds of stimulus already, waiting on the 3rd.
“Covid testing is free, vaccination is free.
“Where is the support for the poor in our country?
“Madali lang naman po mag stay at home if everyone has food on the table and money to pay the bills.”
Si Liza ay isang Filipino-American.
