For a while, 2026 appeared to be shaping up as a year of promising wins for Franco Mabanta.
March saw the Peanut Gallery Media Network (PGMN) CEO marry his longtime partner Victoria Escover after nearly a decade together.
Around the same period, Franco also celebrated his 100th day of sobriety.
On his 43rd birthday in February, close friend and PGMN anchor James Deakin greets him with every ounce of optimism: “The best is so far ahead of you it hasn't even been written yet.”
And yet, less than three months later on May 6, 2026, Franco would be swept into one of the country’s most talked-about political-media controversies.
He and several associates were arrested over an alleged extortion complaint involving former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Franco Mabanta’s full name is Roberto Ma. Franco Cruz Mabanta, although he is more commonly known in public and media circles as Franco Mabanta.
Based on publicly available information from his social media accounts, Franco was born on February 23, 1983.

The campaign, which also featured Angel Locsin and Heart Evangelista, revolved around a mystery-style holiday storyline tied to a Coca-Cola bottle cap promo.
In the specific installment titled “Salarin,” Heart’s character notices her Coke bottle missing during a Christmas gathering and exclaims, “O, nasaan ang Coke ko? Ayun siya!”
The ad then reveals Franco’s character Jasper as the culprit after being caught holding the bottle.

Years after his work in television and entertainment, Franco transitioned into political and digital media through Peanut Gallery Media Network (PGMN)—an online commentary platform he co-founded in 2024.
According to a May 2026 explainer published by GMA News Online, PGMN produces political commentary, livestream discussions, and social media-driven content centered on national issues, governance, and current events.
Under Franco’s leadership as founder and CEO, the platform expanded its online presence across Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok through personality-driven discussions and long-form livestreams.
PGMN also became known for tapping several public personalities and commentators as hosts and contributors, including former CNN Philippines host James Deakin, former MMA fighter Brandon Vera, television host Rovilson Fernandez, former COMELEC commissioner Rowena Guanzon, and actor Edu Manzano, based on public posts and platform materials associated with PGMN.
The platform positioned itself as an “independent” and “free speech absolutist” media outlet, often featuring politically charged discussions involving governance, elections, and national controversies.

FRANCO MABANTA'S MARRIAGE AND FATHERHOOD JOURNEY
After nearly a decade together, Franco Mabanta tied the knot with his longtime partner Raffaella Victoria Escover in March 2026.
Their wedding ceremony was held at Asador Alfonso, and was officiated by Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno, who, along with his wife, served as witnesses and godparents to the newlyweds.

Alleged Extortion Complaint
Franco Mabanta and PGMN became the subject of national attention on May 6, 2026, after Franco and four associates were arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) over an alleged extortion complaint involving former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
According to reports by ABS-CBN News and Rappler, the complaint stemmed from allegations that Franco and his group attempted to demand hundreds of millions of pesos in exchange for withholding videos supposedly linking Romualdez to corruption issues tied to flood control projects.
The NBI alleged that the arrests were conducted through an entrapment operation in Pasig City.
Philippine News Agency reported that authorities estimated the alleged demand to be around PHP300 million to PHP350 million, supposedly tied to the non-release of damaging online content and video materials involving Romualdez.
The controversy quickly became one of the most talked-about political-media stories online due to Franco’s visibility as founder and CEO of PGMN.
Following the arrest, social-media users revisited Franco’s previous broadcasts, political commentary, and perceived ties to Duterte-aligned spaces within the Philippine online political ecosystem.
