Every year, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) tracks down showbiz couples in splitsville.
This year's celebrity breakups are more notable than in the past in that they now include married couples and those who took another chance in their relationship.
Here are tinsel town's former lovebirds now living separate lives:
SUNSHINE DIZON AND TIMOTHY TAN. Sunshine Dizon took to Twitter to vent her anger at a woman whom she accused of having an affair with her husband, Timothy Tan.
The woman was later identified as Clarisma Sison.
According to the Kapuso actress, her marital problems began last year.
In an interview, Sunshine was firm in saying she would never agree to the annulment of her marriage to Timothy.
She snorted, “Why would I give them the happiness to be together, di ba? They should pay for it.”
Although Sunshine and Timothy remain civil to each other, their legal battle still continues.
The actress filed a case against Timothy for violating R.A. 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act) and a separate complaint against Clarisma.
Sunshine and Timothy were married in 2010. They have two children, Doreen and Anton.
DONITA ROSE AND ERIC VILLARAMA. It took a while before Donita Rose confirmed her separation from husband Eric Villarama.
What seemed to be the usual problem of couples in a long-distance relationship turned out to be serious.
Donita has gone back to the Philippines while Eric continues to live in the U.S.
Last July, the Kapuso actress-TV host admitted that her 13-year marriage has ended.
Her announcement followed Eric's posting of his photo with another woman.
Donita confessed to her friend DJ Mo Twister in his radio show Good Times With Mo: “It's not the long-distance relationship part that led [to our separation]... It's other things, too.”
In a recent episode of DJ Mo's show, Donita revealed the reason why Eric left her.
She said, “Even if I had done things differently, this person would have left me anyway because it’s character issue.”
Donita and Eric were married in California, USA, in 2003. They have a son named Joshua Paul.
CIARA SOTTO AND JOE OCONER. The year had just begun when Ciara Sotto let the public know about her and husband Jojo Oconer's marital problem.
In an Instagram post last January 15, the daughter of Senator Tito Sotto revealed that she and her son had already moved out of their house.
She also wrote, “The truth is painful, but it is what it is. I know that the Lord will strengthen me after this.”
The Sunday PinaSaya actress Valeen Montegro was named as the reason of the Ciara-Jojo split.
Ciara and Jojo were married in 2010. They have a one-year-old son named Crixus.
MELAI CANTIVEROS AND JASON FRANCISCO. In July, through a series of Instagram posts, Jason Francisco hinted about his trouble with his wife Melai Cantiveros.
In their joint Instagram account @mrandmrsfrancisco, Jason admitted being somewhat jealous of Carlos Aquino, Melai's co-star in the ABS-CBN drama series We Will Survive.
The couple separated, but through it all, Melai stood by her husband and defended him against bashers.
She said on Instagram, “Ang asawa ko ang pinaka-best na asawa sa lahat.”
After two months, the couple got back together.
This was confirmed by Melai along with her announcement of her second pregnancy.
This was the not the first time Melai and Jason had a major misunderstanding in their relationship.
They also separated briefly in 2012.
The former Pinoy Big Brother housemates were married in 2013. Their first child is Amelia Lucille.
GAB VALENCIANO AND TRICIA CENTENERA. Gab Valenciano's marriage to Tricia Centenera only lasted for more than a year.
Last August, Tricia and Gab posted cryptic messages in their respective Twitter accounts.
The suspicion that there was trouble in their relationship was confirmed to PEP by a source.
The source had said, “Gab is pushing for a divorce.
“Tricia is crushed and now all the cheating has surfaced.”
The split was later confirmed by Tricia and Gab themselves.
The estranged couple remain mum about the details of their separation.
Gab and Tricia had a civil wedding in the U.S. in October 2014.
This was followed by two more wedding ceremonies in the Philippines—in Tagaytay Highlands on March 27, 2015 and in Boracay on March 31, 2015.
They have no child.
DENISE LAUREL AND SOL MERCADO. The sad ending for Denise Laurel and Sol Mercado's long engagement also happened this year.
The Kapamilya actress revealed their breakup in an Instagram post a day after Sol's PBA Team, Barangay Ginebra, won the Governor's Cup championship.
Denise did not give the reason for their breakup, but she assured their fans, “Sol, he did not cheat on me he didn't do anything wrong.”
Denise and Sol were engaged in 2013.
The couple had been planning to get married, but kept postponing it.
According to Denise in previous interviews, they were still saving for it and they both had a busy schedule.
BEA ALONZO AND ZANJOE MARUDO. Fans were saddened that long-time couple Bea Alonzo and Zanjoe Marudo had broken up.
It was late last year when speculations about their split came out.
But Zanjoe only confirmed it last January in an interview with Boy Abunda.
He did not elaborate on the details of their breakup, but admitted moving on hadn't been easy.
“Wala namang madaling way, so kailangan talagang pagdaanan,” said Zanjoe, whose relationship with Bea lasted for five years.
Some speculated that their breakup was caused by Bea and John Lloyd Cruz reunion for the sequel of their hit movie A Second Chance (2015).
Reports said the two actors had gotten along really well after doing the movie.
However, it was proven untrue as Bea has been dating her ex-boyfriend Gerald Anderson.
JOHN LLOYD CRUZ AND ANGELICA PANGANIBAN. Radio host and talent manager Ogie Diaz first reported on January 16 about the split of Angelica Panganiban and John Lloyd Cruz.
But he immediately clarified that Bea Alonzo was not involved.
Her name was dragged in the issue because the Angelica-John Lloyd breakup came very close to the Bea-Zanjoe uncoupling.
It also happened that Bea and John Lloyd were reunited in the movie A Second Chance.
John Lloyd had said about his separation from Angelica, “It’s always hard to go into details... It’s almost impossible, kasi it’s too personal.”
Their relationship did not really have a bitter ending, based on the viral photo of them together.
In fact, in a recent interview, John Lloyd said he considers Angelica as his best friend for life.
ANGEL LOCSIN AND LUIS MANZANO. Love is not sweeter for Angel Locsin and Luis Manzano in their second shot at their relationship.
The two Kapamilya stars decided to give love another try in 2014, two years after their first breakup.
But their love story still did not have a happy ending as they split again earlier this year.
Fans first noticed there was trouble in their relationship when Angel was seen crying in between breaks of Pilipinas Got Talent Season 5, where she was one of the judges and Luis was one of the hosts.
Sadness filled Angel's eyes despite Luis telling her: “I love you. Okay.”
Neither of the ex-lovers directly confirmed their breakup.
Then the rumors linking Jessy Mendiola and Luis started filtering in.
In the December 11 episode of Family Feud, Luis asked Jessy, “Mahal mo ba ako?”
Jessy, surprised, blurted, “Oo! Oo! Kasi naman, e. Seryoso na ako, e!”
JAKE CUENCA AND SARAH GRACE KELLY. A second shot at love did not also work for ex-lovers Jake Cuenca and Sarah Grace Kelly.
The reason he cited was the difficulty of maintaining a long-distance relationship.
Three months later, Jake said he and Sara Grace had agreed to fix their broken relationship when they met in New York.
Unfortunately, it still didn't work out for Jake and his non-showbiz girlfriend.
In an interview with PEP, Jake said the last breakup was final, “No, hindi na talaga, and I don’t think she’s coming back.”
JANINE GUTIERREZ AND ELMO MAGALONA. Some had already anticipated that Janine Gutierrez and Elmo Magalona would break up when the young actor moved to ABS-CBN from GMA-7 in November 2015.
The couple kept their relationship going strong, even when it became obvious that the Kapamilya network was eyeing an Elmo Magalona-Janella Salvador loveteam.
News of their breakup came last October when a source told PEP that the young couple had parted ways after two years in a relationship owing to “personal reasons.”
Janella was rumored to be the reason, but she said in an interview, “I’d rather stay out of that ‘cause I’m not involved naman.”
VIN ABRENICA AND SOPHIE ALBERT. Sophie Albert and Vin Abrenica mutually decided to end their relationship this year to focus on their respective careers.
Sophie said in an interview, “Kasi kami ni Vin, we were very serious [in our work], so it was a little bit interfering with our work.
"So we both decided na ano na lang, chill muna tayo."
Unlike other couples who broke up, the Artista Academy winners remain friends.
BARBIE FORTEZA AND KIKO ESTRADA. Many were surprised when Barbie Forteza and Kiko Estrada split.
The two Kapuso couple revealed in their previous interviews that they were dating each other.
They never publicly admitted that they were already in a relationship.
It was confirmed only when Barbie hinted at their breakup at a presscon, “I'm single and happy... I'm happy naman. I need to be.”
But she was evasive when asked about the details of their split.
She just told reporters, “Ayoko na munang pag-usapan.”
